He took part in a volunteer project in 2020. He offered some kids nice food which looked like a . The kids really liked it and thanked him . His father supported him and was him. |
My dad is a patient, loving and giving person, but his kindness that really touched me was one night1we were driving home after visiting my grandmother.
At a small crossing, we saw that a car stopped in the middle of the road and got in 2way of our driving. An older lady was talking on her phone and staring up at a street sign, clearly trying to work out3. She came back to her car, looking4than before. As Dad stood at her window and asked if she was OK, she burst5tears, explaining she had lost her way.
It turned out she was a caregiver(照料者) and6to find the house of the client(委托人) she meant to be helping that night. When she showed Dad the address she meant to be at, Dad handed her his business card and told her to follow him, and7him at the number on the card if she lost in travel.
My dad drove to the address, only a suburb(郊区) or two out of our way, and found the house for8. The look of thankfulness on her face9reward enough for Dad.
The next morning, the lady he'd helped the night before called him to thank him again for his kindness. I don't think I've10been so proud to be his daughter.
I was born and grew up in Scotland. Three years ago,I finished school and1to Tennessee (a state in southeastern USA) for work. The scenery here is wonderful. The people here are2. Everyone is so kind to me that I soon felt right at home.3,it took me quite a long time to get used to the local language.
Mike was an experienced model designer (设计师) in our factory. He was not a4of my team, but his team and mine often worked together. One day, I listed some work that Mike needed to do."Mike, can you get this done in two days? It's not much5."
"I don't care to do that, Laura!"
I was surprised by this6. It was his job!
"We need to get this done, or we can't continue with our work! Can you please get it done?"
Mike raised his head, saying,"I've told you already—I don't care to do that!"
I was quite7."Hey, do we need to go to your boss?"
"What's the8? I've told you twice I don't care to do it. And it won't take me long to do it.I will have it done by this afternoon."
Hearing these words,I suddenly9that "I don't care to do something" means "I don't mind doing something" in Tennessee. So Mike was10me all the time!

I am a professor of sports and exercise so I often deal with nervousness in my research with sports people. Actually, most people experience nervousness at some time or another.
If you are feeling anxious, my advice is to first find the cause or causes. Make a list of those things that are making you nervous and work out which ones you can do something about. Focus all of your efforts on managing the causes that you can control.
Most people cannot tell the difference between controllable(可控制的) and uncontrollable causes, so things they can't control become a big reason for nervousness. Dealing with this is very important if people want to keep a healthy mind.
Simply try to accept the uncontrollable causes of nervousness. You might be worried about the weather on a big day, an accident or an attack on the train, or perhaps just things that other people are doing at work. The results may be very important but there is still no use worrying because you can't control any of these things. Accept that you can't control everything. Once you understand this, it becomes easier not to worry.
If a circumstance, such as swimming, is causing you to be anxious, try to face it as often as possible so that you can get used to it.
It can often help to think about yourself doing the thing that makes you nervous —then close your eyes and imagine it going well. Imagine how the fight or job interview is going to happen so that you can get used to it. This will help you understand that the thing you fear most is probably not going to happen.

A. Rope climbing is a popular form of exercise. In 1896, it first appeared as an Olympic sport. The climber who spends the shortest time reaching the top is the winner. After 1932, there was no rope climbing in the Olympics for some reason. B. Just do as your dad says. Sleeping with the phone on is bad for our sleep. We may be woken up by messages. Even the light from the screen could hurt our sleep cycles (周期),resulting in sleep that is both too short and often interrupted(中断的). C. He is right. Music makes us want to move. For example, when we listen to dance music,we naturally start to move to the beat.A cheerful song puts us in a good mood, so we feel much happier. So music gives us energy and helps us exercise longer. D. Some students like to listen to music when they are doing homework. They think it's not a big deal, but it really matters. It distracts (使分心)students from their homework and makes them do worse in school lessons. E. History is not just a study of the past. It is the study of people, places, and events that can influence the future. We can understand the mistakes of the past in history. And these mistakes will help us not to do the same wrong things. F. It's not easy to write stories in the beginning. Don't worry! The story can be real or made up, can be short or long. Just keep writing and express your ideas in your own words. G. It's said the printing was created by Bi Sheng during the Song Dynasty. It plays an important role in the history of printing. And it also helps to spread Chinese culture around the world quickly. |

Years ago, Linda Henkel, an American scientist, was travelling at the Grand Canyon."When I was at the canyon's edge, someone came to the front, took a picture and walked away," she recalled (回忆) as she shared her travelling experiences."He didn't even look at the scenery."
Henkel is surprised at how obsessed (痴迷的) people are with taking pictures. They
take pictures before dinner, at parties and on museum tours. They believe taking pictures will help them remember the moment. However, it isn't true according to Henkel's study.
In her study, Henkel led a group of college students around a museum. She asked them to look at 15 exhibits and then to photograph 15 others. The next day,she tested the students' memory of the tour. She found that the students remembered fewer details about the exhibits that they photographed.
Henkel explained when people focus on(集中于) taking photos, they pay less attention to the event (事件) itself. As a result, they fail to remember their experiences well.
Taking pictures may not be helpful for our memory. But shouldn't reviewing(回顾) the pictures help wake up our memories? The answer is yes. However, it happens only when we spend enough time doing it.
"To remember the experiences, we have to review the photos carefully,"Henkel said. "But most people seldom spend the time looking over their digital(数字的) pictures because there are too many of them."
