Toys and games are fun, but inventing them is serious business. Big toy companies treat it even more serious, because the more toys they sell, the more money they make. They have adults who do nothing but think up new toys. Sometimes they even work in locked rooms so no one can steal their ideas! 

But not every new to y is invented that way. Some of the best inventions are made by kids. Thirteen-year-old Casey loved to play golf. He invented a way to make the game more fun. He invented a new golf tee （球座）. It is called the Bio tees. Most golf tees are made from wood, but Casey's tee is made out of recycled paper. It does not harm the environment. Casey started his own company to make his new tee. He's already had orders for millions of them. 

Jessica invented a toy when she was only eight. Jessica likes to jump rope. She jumps alone and she jumps with friends. To jump alone, you need a short rope. With friends, you need a long rope. So Jessica invented a new kind of jump rope. The length of Jessica's jump rope can be modified（调整）. It can be made long to jump with friends. Or it can be made short to jump alone. When you finish jumping, you can even turn the jump rope into a belt. Now Jessica has a business to sell her jump ropes.

When I was a child, I loved to visit, my grandparents' farm. There was always something new to do, to see and to enjoy. 

One day, I, together with my brothers and sisters, went to my grandparents' farm to celebrate my birthday. We all liked  (eat) strawberries and we went to pick  (they). We each took a basket. But I was lazy. I took the  (small) basket. While the others were  (pick) strawberries, I had a rest. Before we returned, I put a lot of grass in my basket and then I put a few strawberries on top. The basket looked full. My grandfather said he was proud  my hard work. 

The next morning my grandmother made many  (pie). There was a big pie which was  (make) just for me. It looked nice! But when I began to eat it, I found there was nothing but grass under the top strawberries!' You can guess  surprised I was. 

My grandfather looked at me  (calm) and said, "When you cheat others, you cheat yourself. " He didn't need to say more but taught me  go od lesson. 

Hanghang was diagnosed with autism(被诊断患有孤独症) at the age of three. After finishing primary school, he had to leave school because he couldn' t catch up with his classmates and also had 1 communicating with others. 

After that, Hanghang spent most time watching TV at home. He became interested in the programs about 2 . He drew trains on the yard walls and even slept with toy trains. 

Seeing this, Hanghang' s father, Li Jiawei, decided to 3 a real train for his son. So in his free time, Li 4 observed(观察) trains and asked experts at railway stations for help. Later, Li was given a book called Steam Locomotives. It was a 5 from a train driver. Li spent three months 6 himself how to draw pictures using the computer. 

Because the process was very 7 , factories didn' t want to produce parts for Li. Li had no choice but to make the parts by himself. It was too hard. Sometimes he thought about 8 , but he didn' t. Finally, in 2021 his first mini train came out. 

As Li continued to improve the train, he noticed Hanghang also 9 . He was no longer afraid of strangers and became more outgoing. 

Now Hanghang gets a job at a tourism site(旅游景点) — to drive his mini train. Train tickets have become Hanghang' s income(收入), but it' s free for disabled children. 

" Now, my son lives a 10 life and also brings happiness to others. I hope we can pay more attention to the children like Hanghang, " Li said. 

Look at the picture. Do you know what the girl and the boy are doing? They are throwing two baby puffins(海鹦) off a cliff(悬崖). You may not understand why they are doing this. In fact, they are trying to save the baby puffins. 

Puffins are the most common birds on the Westman Islands in Iceland. Different from most sea birds, they are able to go under water to 60 meters deep to catch fish. Each spring, they lay eggs in burrows(洞穴) on cliffs. 40 days later, they will fly back to the sea, leaving the young there. Baby puffins would spend about six weeks in the burrows alone before they' re ready to fly and take to the sea. 

In the past, young puffins could easily find the sea by following the light of the moon. But now, bright lights of the city often make them lose their way. Many of them end up flying into the town. However, it' s difficult for young puffins to find food in the town, so they may lose their lives there. 

That' s why people on the Westman Islands have decided to help those young puffins. In late summer, when young puffins leave their burrows, local people often go out to look for the lost puffins at night. If they find one, they would pick it up and put it in a box. The next day, they would take it to the cliff and throw it off. In this way, young puffins can fly safely toward their new home for the next few years. 

The unusual tradition also helps make sure the puffins will be back to their burrows another year. Puffins lay one egg each year at most, so the help from the people on the Westman Islands is important to puffins. 

A new world record has been set for the world' s heaviest pumpkin. An American called Travis Gienger has grown a pumpkin weighing 1, 247kg. It weighs more than four polar bears put together. But do you really know pumpkins?

They may not be juicy like an apple, but since pumpkins grow from a flowering plant, they are actually a kind of fruit from the squash(南瓜) or gourd(葫芦) family. 

※Pumpkins aren't always yellow or orange.

While known for their deep orange or yellow color, they can be other different colors.     The reason many pumpkins are orange is that they have carotenoids(类胡萝卜素), the same thing that gives carrots their orange color.

You may only see two or three different kinds of pumpkins at the supermarket, but there are dozens of pumpkin kinds grown all over the world. 

※It takes up to 120 days to grow a pumpkin.

If you want to grow pumpkins at home, you need lots of patience.  Once you have planted the seeds, it could take up to four months before the pumpkins are ready to pick. 

There was a wise sheep in a village. One day he gave three rabbits three seeds(种子), and said, " If you plant these seeds and wait for them to grow, you' ll have something nice to eat. " The rabbits were happy and  (take) one seed each. 

The first rabbit didn' t want to wait,  he ate the seed. It was hard and dry. The second rabbit planted his seed in his yard. Weeks later, the first rabbit came  (see) him and said, " I had my seed and it tasted awful!  sheep must be wrong!" 

The second rabbit laughed. " You have to plant it and wait. Look, I planted mine and it has two pretty green  (leaf) now. " 

" What will happen next?" the first rabbit asked. 

" I don' t know, " said the second rabbit, " and I don' t want to wait anymore. " 

So the two rabbits ate  (they) — one each. 

Months later, the two rabbits visited their friend. They had nearly forgotten all about the seeds. When they reached their friend' s home, they were  (surprise) to find a strange plant. It was tall. Many green beans were hanging. 

" Try these beans. They' re nice to eat, " said the  (three) rabbit. " And they are 54.   (real) delicious. " 

The two rabbits looked  each other. They regretted not having waited. 

Be patient. Many good things come to those who wait.
