One of my earliest memories is play "shops"with 7my grandpa when I was
5. after leaving school at 18, I worked in a fruit shop, but I had no1 of how to run my own shop back then.
Several years later, my husband Eric and I heard about a shop for sale in a nearby village. We had a look and decided to have it as our own. We were a bit2 at shop-keeping, so we often didn't know what the3 were asking for. But we soon learned how to run it well.
Nowadays, more people shop online, but they still come here for things4 from their order. I've kept up with technology, but the shop itself hasn't changed much.
Now, as I'm getting older, the shop is open from 7 am to 6pm on weekdays, 5 closing at 8:30 pm like before.
Eric died 16 years ago, but I am6 giving up the shop. I love it all-talking to the customers and getting7 they want. Some customers come in two or three times a day. They often tell me their8 and I offer advice if I can.
It was the shop's 50th anniversary(周年) on May 13 this year. I wanted to do something9 , so I held a party with my customers. I also wrote a book about my memories in the shop.
This shop has been my life. I never10 I'd still be here after 50 years, but I love it and the people here. It's what keeps me going.

Our world is in danger. We must do something to protect the environment. But, what are the main problems we face?
The greenhouse effect
The atmosphere(大气层) around the Earth is necessary for all living things. It is like the glass of a greenhouse, letting sunlight in and keeping heat from getting out.
Without it, the Earth would be the same as the Moon--cold and lifeless.
When we burn fuels(燃料) such as petrol and coal, we produce a gas called carbon dioxide(CO2). Too much of this gas pollutes the atmosphere, and causes it to keep in too much heat. As a result of the greenhouse effect, the Earth's temperature is increasing. This cause sea level to rise, and in the future may cause cities to disappear.
Cutting down forests
Every year, we destroy nature by cutting down many forests. This makes the greenhouse effect worse because trees take in CO2 and produce oxygen(O2).
Cutting down trees also destroys the homes of animals that live in forests, and causes the surface of the soil to be easily destroyed by train. This can result in floods and even more damage to the environment.
Bad habits
Many of our habits cause pollution. People often use things once and then throw them away, or leave them on the ground as litter. To protect the environment, we need to take proper action. We should be different from many consumers and become "green consumers". This means that we should only but and use products friendly to the environment. We should also recycle as many things as we can. We can reuse things for the same purpose as before, or we can use them for new purpose. Then , we can make a difference.
My cousin Daisy loves reading books a lot. Recently, she wants to read more but couldn't afford to buy some. As a student of Grade Nice, I truly want to get into a senior high school. It was a bright and sunny morning on March 16th as the students of Princeton High School gathered in the campus(校园), talking with excitement. The air was filled with laughter, chatter, and the clatter of students' backpacks. The teachers were ready to lead the way and ensure a safe, memorable and educational experience. We were setting out on a school trip to Oceanview National Park by bus. As the buses went into the park, all of us were greeted by the beautiful sights of trees, a clear lake, and the sound of singing birds. They could not wait to explore the wonders within the park. The students separated into smaller groups and set off to explore the park. We came across various wildlife as we explored, from cute squirrels to colorful birds. My best friend, Mike, was surprised at the breath-taking waterfalls falling down moss-covered rocks, while Jessie, John and Lucy and I discovered hidden caves that seemed like a fairy tale. As the day ended, the students gathered around a campfire, sharing stories , and creating lasting memories. The next morning, we left Ocranview National Park and travelled back to Princeton High School. We got a renewed sense of wonder and cherished memories that would last a lifetime. What a fun, memorable and educational journey! |
