On Friday, June 25, our class will take a field trip to North Park Zoo. The Zoohas lions, elephants, and other interesting animals. Many of the animals we are studying will be there for us to watch closely.

What You Need to Know

My grandfather grew up in war-torn (战乱的) Europe. "Stand straight, stand tall" meant something else then. After the war, he went to America. He lived a hard life. "If they could do it, why couldn't I?" "Stand straight, stand tall," he often reminded himself. Thanks to the help of a friend, my grandfather got a job. He once told me that he was very nervous at first. He was trying to learn not only this hard new job but also a new language.

"Stand straight, stand tall," he would always tell himself. I am so proud of my grandfather. After listening to my grandfather's unusual experiences, I have changed the way I look at my own life.

"Stand straight, stand tall" has become not only a piece of advice to improve my posture (身姿). It also tells me to be proud of who I am. And I do.

Once there lived two pigeons（鸽子）. They were husband and wife. They spent their time looking for food in the forest. One evening, the wife returned home early. As usual she was waiting for her husband to have dinner, when suddenly it started raining. She was worried.

Just then, she saw a bird-catcher（捕鸟人）coming towards her. In a cage（笼子）he had a pigeon. It was her husband.

Soon, it stopped raining, but the bird-catcher's clothes were wet. The poor wife sat by her husband's cage. And she started to cry. The husband said, "Don't feel sad, dear. We now have a guest. This man is cold and hungry. He needs your help." Hearing this, the wife flew around to get dry twigs（细枝）. She made a fire for the bird-catcher. Then she looked at the bird-catcher and said, "You are our guest. Since I have no food to offer, I will jump into the fire. You can eat me."

The bird-catcher was overwhelmed by the hospitality of the humble pigeon. He stopped the wife from jumping into the fire. He opened the cage and set the husband free. The two pigeons were happy to be together.

A little boy always thought he was the unluckiest child in the world because he was kind of disabled. So he was quiet and hardly played with his classmates.

One spring, the boy's father gave each child a small tree to plant. The father said to the children, "I'll buy a gift for the child whose tree grows best." So every child tried their best.

Several days later, when the little boy went to see his tree, he was surprised to find his tree grew better than his brothers' and sisters'. His father kept his promise and said the boy would become an excellent botanist (植物学家) in the future. Since then, the little boy became confident (自信的).

One night, the little boy remembered the teacher once said that plants usually grow at night. Why not go to see the tree? When he went out, he found his father watering his tree. Suddenly, he knew his father helped him take care of his tree!
