How do people end up homeless? What can we do to stop this from happening?
A friend 1 me to help serve dinner at Tent City. He said a number of tents were 2for the homeless in the area and he needed my help.
I took my two boys with me. They were 9 and 5 at the time. They had a lot of questions about 3poor people lived in the world.
I told them the way they lived. We also talked about the reasons why people end up in this kind of 4and the importance of doing something for their safety. I 5that to them from time to time. The most important thing for their safety is the help from other people who would like to share some of their food, clothes and 6, which is the most valuable.
The people we served were in 7from the young to the elderly. Many of them were 8teeth or wearing dirty clothes. To my surprise, they were quite 9that I had brought the boys. Many said what fun it was to have active, joyful children 10.
After dinner, I saw my older son sitting together with several elderly gentlemen who were talking about 11in front of a small television set. He liked sports, and he was having a great time sharing the news and hearing stories about it.
When some people returned to their tents, I heard my older son tell 12, "Thanks so much for having dinner with us." I could see through the expressions on their faces that his simple words 13them greatly. I hugged him 14we left to go home because they touched me too.
This experience could teach us how to 15people. No matter who they are, we should respect(尊重) them.
Turtle was wise and hard-working, and he had delivered(投递) the mail for many years. Turtle had been working for so long that no one, not even Turtle himself, could remember when he had his last rest. So Turtle's friends wanted him to have the best vacation ever.
"Go to see the world," said Stork, who helped busy parents to look after their babies. Stork traveled to very far places because she could fly. But Turtle could not fly and did not think one day off was long enough to see the world.
"Sleep in," said Bear, who would like to stay in the warm cave(洞穴) where he had spent all through the winter. Turtle also enjoyed sleeping in the mud during the winter, but it was spring now.
"Find a new place to live," said Hermit Crab(寄居蟹), who had recently traded his old shell(壳) for an empty tin can (锡罐). "My new place smells like peaches!" But Turtle was not able to leave his shell the way that Hermit Crab could.
"You should go to see a movie," said Owl(猫头鹰), who worked at night. "I hear there is a new movie about owls that is supposed to be quite good."
Turtle smiled politely at Owl and said nothing. He then called his cousin, Frog, and asked if shewas free the next day. Turtle smiled happily at her reply.
There are many kinds of books in the world. They can be divided into two kinds: fiction and non-fiction. Well-received books from either kind are even made into films and games.
Fiction books are written using the imagination. The characters and events in these books are not real. Fiction books can be mostly found at bookshops and libraries. They can even be found on the shelves of comic(漫画) shops and game shops. Often, fiction books are written in two or three mixture of the science, fantasy(幻想) and classical groups. The most popular kind among youngsters is probably in the area of fantasy. Anything including magic and witchcraft(巫术), spaceships and aliens, or superheroes and time travel may be used in this kind.
Many different kinds of non-fiction books are available on the market. These are written about facts, real people, real events and real places. Most of the time, non-fiction books are written by people who have experienced or seen the happenings themselves. Real-life stories can also be offered by readers and they can be found in magazines and newspapers.
As more books are written and produced across the globe, our choice for books also increases. Reading is a good habit, but it is very important to choose the right kind of books to read. We, as the readers, have the responsibility to learn to choose wisely.
For almost 100 years, the Winter Olympics has been a celebration of snow and ice sports around the world. It is a special event that only happens once every four years.
Although the Winter Olympics started with just five sports across nine disciplines(分项) in France in 1924, it has grown to have seven sports across 15 different disciplines and has been held in 12 countries across three continents(大陆) so far. In 2022, for the first time ever in the Olympics Games' history, Beijing will become the first city to have hosted both the Summer and Winter Olympics.
China has come a long way and achieved many goals since it took part in the Winter Olympics for the first time in 1980. In this short period of time, Chinese players have won medals(奖牌) in six of the event's sports. Short track (短道) speed skating has been an area of expertise(专长) for Chinese players.
China's interest in winter sports has been growing. The Ministry of Education has set a goal of building 5,000 special schools by 2025 to improve winter sports education.
The government has also been encouraging primary and middle schools to add winter sports to their courses. Many provinces and cities have already acted on this suggestion. Classes will be set up in schools in northern China to boost interest in winter sports. In southern China, schools can work with ice rinks (溜冰场) and winter sports clubs.
Beijing has already set a good example. Nearly 840,000 students in the city have begun taking winter sports lessons, including skating and skiing lessons, China News Agency reported.

His hobby is collecting stamps and postcards, and he's from Beijing. Our second competitor is a university student from Shanghai. Her name is Angela Wei. Although Angela is young, she's travelled to ten different countries around the world. Finally, our third competitor loves travelling. She's a travel book writer from Nanjing, Michelle Luo. |

The rules of Travel Quiz are simple. I'll read a question, and the first competitor to push the button(按钮) on the desk will get to answer. Points are given to correct answers, and are taken away when the answers are wrong. |

We all need a healthy environment, but we produce waste every day, and it is bad for our environment. Repeat these three words daily: reduce, reuse and recycle.
Reduce. It means "use less". Do not waste things. It saves money and causes less pollution. Do not order food than you can finish. Turn off the lights when you do not need them.
Reuse. It means "use again". Use things for as long as possible. Look after them so that they will last. Repair them if possible. Do not throw them and buy new ones.
Recycle. It means "change things into something else to be reused". Although it takes energy to change things into something else, it is better than throwing them into the dustbin or them.
We cannot hope for rapid change, but let's take these simple steps today so that we will save the world for our grandsons and granddaughters tomorrow.
I recently read a book called The Shawshank Redemption (《肖申克的救赎》). It tells a story that is both shocking and full of hope.
Set in 1947, it tells the story of Andy Dufresne, a banker who is sentenced to life (被判终身监禁). He was caught because of killing two people, in fact he didn't do it. After years of stay in the prison(监狱), he starts to make friends with others, follows the (instruction), and wins their trust with his excellent math abilities.
Andy never stops wanting the freedom because he hates the (comfortable) life in the prison and wants to go out. The longer he stays there, the (thirsty) for freedom he is. During his 20 years in prison, he has (overcome) many difficulties. He has been (dig) a hole with a small tool every day and hiding the hole with a poster. The story is so fascinating I don't want to put it down.
Famous Irish writer Oscar Wilde once said, "We're all in the gutter(臭水沟), but some of us are looking at the stars." This saying perfectly reflects Andy's life. moves me most is Andy's love for the beauty of life. He plays a song over the prison's radio, though he is not allowed to do so. When the singer's voice is heard, the prisoners stop talking, and they lose in the wonderful music.
The goal of this book is to show readers the power of strength, hope and patience.
