Remember the delicious pizza that you created?  But not for Remmi Smith. Still a teenager, she's already creating fantastic dishes.  And with her knowledge of social media(媒体), she's making sure that everyone knows she's here!

Remmi, who was born in China, now lives in the USA. She is just 16. She has already starred in two shows on cooking and her book of healthy recipes has recently come out.  By the age of seven, Remmi was a real food lover who could cook complete meals for her family. Remmi began making videos for fun. Her mother videoed her while she was cooking and put the videos online.  They then asked Remmi to create another show for them. 

That show is mainly about Remmi's interest, which is getting teenagers to take healthy eating seriously. She believes that when young people make their own food, they care more about what they eat. Remmi works with a company in the USA which shows her videos in school dining halls.  Remmi believes that young people can create a healthy meal for their family which doesn't cost a lot. Her delicious recipes include vegetable paella(海鲜炒饭) and strawberry kebabs(烤肉串). In fact, strawberries, which are Remmi's favorite food, appear in other recipes, including strawberry sandwich!

Her latest idea is a healthy snack service. For a monthly subscription(订购), you receive snacks, which include fruit sticks and popcorn, and fun cooking activities that help you develop a healthy lifestyle. 
 

Antonio López de Santa Anna，a former president of Mexico，was living in New York in the late 1860s. While he was there，he met with Thomas Adams，an inventor. Santa Anna shared with Adams his idea for an invention—a new process，really，for making rubber（橡胶） products such as tires（轮胎）. 

▲Santa Anna thought it would be possible to blend the rubber with chicle（糖胶树胶），the milky juice of a tropical（热带的） tree. That would make rubber products much cheaper to produce. Adams told Santa Anna that he was willing to try. Later，Santa Anna prepared one ton of chicle to be shipped to Adams from Mexico. 

Adams worked for about a year，trying different blends of rubber and chicle. None of them were successful. The inventor still had lots of chicle left over and wondered what to do with it. Then he remembered Santa Anna's stories of people chewing chicle in Mexico. So Adams made a small number of chewing gum（口香糖），packaged it，and sold it in local stores. The gum was much tastier than other American gum，which was made from wax（蜡） or tree sap（汁）. 

Although Adams's original idea was a failure, chewing gum was a success. In 1871，he invented a machine to produce gum so he wouldn't have to make it by hand. Adams enjoyed success for the rest of his life，and people have enjoyed all kinds of tasty gum for years. 

Astronauts would face dangers both getting to and surviving(生存) on Mars. Let's learn about surviving a trip to Mars. 

What would it take to keep people safe and healthy on a trip to Mars? Scientists are already working on it though the trip may be many years later. 

Over the last 60 years, many spacecraft(航天器) have flown by, orbited(沿轨道运行) and even landed on the Red Planet. However, humans could work faster and smarter than machines. That's why the United States, China and other countries want to send people to Mars. But surviving this trip would not be easy. 

A trip to Mars would be the farthest journey in human history. Mars is about 225 million kilometers away, so it would take astronauts at least six months to reach there. However, it only takes a few days to get to the moon. 

While space travel is never free of danger, it takes a lot more health risks to travel in space for a long time. For one thing, staying in space for long periods makes the human body weak. Also, it puts pressure behind the eyes and causes eye problems. But gravity(重力) machines could help. 

Then there's space radiation(辐射) to worry about. It might raise the risk of health problems. especially for astronauts who will have long journeys. Scientists are working out the problems. They have found taking certain vitamins(维生素) can help. 

Astronauts will have to pack light to lift off from Earth. But they won't be able to get things they need like astronauts on the space station do. Astronauts on the space station practice for this by growing lettuce and other food in space. Engineers are developing 3D printing techniques which could allow future Mars astronauts to build tools as needed. 

It was a warm Sunday afternoon in May, 2021. Beside the Lech River many people were playing and picnicking, and they felt 1  and relaxed. Some people were cooling their feet in the 2 water from the snow covered mountains nearby. From behind the bar(吧台) at the restaurant, Paul Blachut, a 3  , had a good view of the river. 

A mother and two daughters were playing on the riverbank when, suddenly, they4  into the fast running water. A passer by shouted 5  , "Help!Three people are being carried away by the water!"Looking up from his work, Paul noticed the three women flapping(摆动) their arms in the water, trying to 6 anything they could.

Later, people expressed their admiration for Paul,9 he was modest(谦虚的) about his role. "It only took me two or three minutes, " he said, adding that he was happy to have received high praise from his boss for his10  . Indeed, it was a job very well done. 

Traffic School

Have you ever driven through a red traffic light? Have you ever parked in the wrong place or driven  (fast) than the speed limit(限制)?The answers are probably "yes". Every year  (thousand) of drivers become "offenders"—they break the rules of the road. But  are the punishments for this offence?

In most countries drivers have to pay a fine(罚款), (usual) $100—$300. But in the USA, Australia and some  (Europe) countries offenders also get points on their driving license. After they get certain number of points, they can't drive. 

Life is difficult when you can't drive. So far some states in the USA (introduce) a new way to avoid this—Traffic School. Offenders have a choice: They can get points on their license  they can do a course at Traffic School. 

Traffic Schools run "driver improvement courses". They cost about $100 and take from four  twelve hours. Most people do the course in a classroom, but in some states drivers can do the course online. Drivers learn the rules of the road and they learn how  (be) better drivers. They don't have to take a driving test, but at the end of the course they have to pass a written examination. 

Do you know a famous saying    "Life    is    like    a    box    of    chocolates,    and    you    never    know    what    you    will    get. "? The surprise is part of the fun. Now blind boxes are quite popular. Merchants (商家) fill the boxes with random (随机的) toys which usually come from movies, comics and cartoons. 

The earliest blind boxes originated in Japan. It was a New Year's tradition. At that time, they called it "a lucky bag". Blind boxes were introduced to China in 2014. According to a 2019 Tmall (天猫) report, the mini-series of the Labubu blind box was sold 55, 000 in just 9 seconds during the Singles Day shopping event. Most customers for blind boxes are young people aged 18 to 35. 

According to The Paper, blind box toys are popular in part because of their cute appearances. The cute mini-sized cartoon toys are suitable to place almost anywhere. What's more, even if blind box toys are not their top choice for decorations, the mystery and uncertainty of the process also attract people. 这就是人们一个接一个买盲盒的主要原因。

Opening a blind box is a pleasant little surprise for our daily lives. When people open this simple little box, they may be disappointed, but the uncertainty is part of the fun. People will open more blind boxes and hope for a better outcome. In fact, although the magical mystery boxes are full of fun, we should come to a rational (理智的) decision.
