Ants are a special kind of animals in the world. What do you know about them? Do you know where they live? How do they work? How many kinds of ants are there in the world? Let's have a close look at them.

Some ants make their houses under a stone or under the ground. If the weather is warm, you may see many ants under the stone. If the weather is cold, many ants will be in their houses under the ground.

Most of the ants are workers. They are very busy. They look for food and take care of the young ants. Each family of ants has a queen ant. The queen ant doesn't work. She is important because she lays eggs(产卵). These eggs will become new ants.

There are many kinds of ants in America. One kind of these is very strong. People are afraid of it and animals are afraid of it, too. These ants move in groups. They eat all the animals on their way. They can even kill and eat elephants. When the ants come near, people leave their homes. But people are sometimes glad after the ants pass through because they will see no other insects(昆虫)or snakes.

    1. (1) Where can you find many ants on warm days?
      A . Under the stone. B . Under the food. C . Inside people's houses. D . On the ground.
    2. (2) What does a worker ant do?

① He lays eggs. ② He looks for food.

③ He moves in groups. ④ He eats insects and snakes.

⑤ He looks after the young ants.

      A . ①③⑤ B . ②③⑤ C . ①②④ D . ③④⑤
    3. (3) Why is the queen ant important?
A . Because the queen ant finds food for all the other family members. B . Because the queen ant is stronger than all the other family members. C . Because the queen ant lays eggs and these eggs will become new ants. D . Because the queen ant does more work than the other family members.
    4. (4) What does the underlined "They" in paragraph 4 refer to?
      A . American People. B . The strong ants. C . Insects and snakes. D . Some other elephants.
    5. (5) What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A . People should kill all these ants. B . Ants in America are very strong. C . Sometimes these ants are good for people. D . Big animals are not afraid of any kind of ants.

The year is 2045. A group of robots take part in the World Cup. Robots? Is that possible? Many scientists believe it can happen, because there are already robots that can play football. Of course, today's robots don't just play sports.

Early robots could do easy things, mainly in factories. Humans operated (操作) them. However, today's robots can operate on their own. Some can only move around a little, like the robots which can sweep the floor, but others, for example, Honda's ASIMO can do much more. He can run, climb, dance, and even play football.

Then there are robots which look like humans. These robots have faces and can show feelings. Such robots can learn new things, and show us how they "feel". Actroid -DER is one of them.

Scientists are also making robots that look and act like animals. At NASA, scientists are making a robot snake which can get into holes (洞). One day, it may help scientists look for signs of life on Mars. There are other animal robots. The frog-bot can jump over things. The sticky-bot can walk up walls. There's even a robot called Water Runner that can walk on water.

But can a robot football team ever play as well as a human team? Many scientists think so. Anything is possible. One day, they may even be world champions (冠军)!

    2. (2) What could the early robots do?
A . They could clean the floor. B . They could operate themselves. C . They could run, climb and dance. D . They could do easy tasks in factories.
    3. (3) Which statement is true according to paragraphs 3 and 4?
A . The sticky-bot can walk on water. B . The frog-bot can show human feelings. C . Honda's ASIMO is unable to play soccer. D . The robot snake may find living things on Mars.
    4. (4) Which of the following best shows the structure of the passage? (P1=paragraph 1)
      A . B . C . D .
    5. (5) What's the best title for the passage?
A . Why We Need Robots B . The History of Robots C . Robots Are Getting Cleverer D . Robots play football in 2045
三、阅读理解,第二节,短文填空(共5小题,每小题2分)
  • 5.  阅读全文,并从下列方框里的六个句子中选择五个还原到原文中,使原文的意思完整连贯。

    A. It's hard to make friends if you always stay at home.

    B. How can we find friends and get on well with them?

    C. Ask questions and show your interest in their answers.

    D. Friends should be ready to help each other all the time.

    E. To live a happy life, you should make friends with others.

    F. If you don't look at them, people may stop talking to you.

Each of us, rich or poor, should at least have one or two good friends. Your friends will listen to you when you speak, will take care of you when you are sick, and will be together with you in your journey through life.  Here are some tips.

    Keep in touch with people.

Get out of the house and do things that will put you in touch with people. Look people in the eye when you are talking to them. In that way, people will find it easier to talk to you. Because they may think that you are not interested in them.

    Be a good listener.

Let people talk about themselves before talking about "me, me, me".

Make friends with people you really like.

Try to make friends with the kind of people you really like and respect, not just with those who are easy to meet.

Help and believe in each other.

Give your friend a hand when he or she is in trouble. Believe in each other. This is the most important thing in a friendship. Even the best friends may have a quarrel (争吵) sometimes. If this happens, don't let your quarrel last too long. Try to make up with (和好) your friends soon.
