There are many kinds of ants in America. One kind is very strong. People are afraid of it.
These ants move in a large group. They eat all the animals on their way. They can kill and eat elephants, and they can eat wood houses. Sometimes even people are killed by them. When the ants come, people leave their homes.
But sometimes people are glad after the ants pass through, because they can see no insects(昆虫) or snakes.
Norway (挪威)is close to the North Pole. It is very cold there in winter. There are only a few hours of sunlight every day.
To most people in Norway, skiing is the best way to have fun in winter. Almost everyone skis. Children learn to ski soon after they learn to walk.
Long long ago in Norway, there were no buses or trains. The people had to find a way to walk over the deep snow. Skiing was the right answer! Norwegians have been skiing ever since. Today Norwegians ski just for fun. The whole family may go together on ski trips across the snowy countryside.
Although they love winter, the people of Norway are happy to see summer come. They enjoy the out ﹣ of ﹣ doors at any time of the year. In summer they swim and sunbathe. Some people go hiking and mountain climbing. The few short summer months are busy ones for Norwegian farmers, too. In summer in the north part of Norway, the sun doesn't set at all for many days. We often have practice for a fire at school, and we all know the dangers of fires. But it's good and necessary for a family to learn how to prepare for a fire. Here are suggestions.
Put a smoke alarm in the house. Smoke from a fire causes the alarm to go off. The alarm makes a loud sound. The sound tells everyone to leave the house at once.
Make escape (逃脱)plans. We should know all the ways out of the house. If there is a fire, everyone follows the plan to get out. Part of the plan is to check all the windows to make sure they can be opened easily.
Buy fire extinguishers(灭火器). Everyone in the family should know how to use them.
Practice for a fire. We do fire practice because we teach children about fire safety. Everyone in the family should know the following fire rules：
Don't open a hot door! The fire can grow more quickly if you open the door.
Stay close to the floor! Smoke can be more dangerous than fire. The best is near the floor because smoke rises.
What will you do if your hair or clothes start to burn？ First, stop! Don't run! The fire burns faster because of more air. Drop! Fall to the floor. Then roll! Turning over and over will make the fire go out.
There are many possible causes(起因)offires. A wise family is ready for a fire all the time.
A river was running happily through the hill, the valley (山谷)and the field. Soon it was stopped by a huge rock and the river was a little afraid and worried about what to do.
The rock said, "Hi, baby! Where are you going？"
The river answered, "I'm going to the sea. My mother is waiting for me. "
The rock made fun of the river and said, "You're too young. Go back to the hill at once. You can't get there. Don't come back here again!"
The river was surprised to hear that and said, "I can only go forwards (向前). There's no river that goes backwards(向后)!"

For most of us, it's really hard to imagine life without electricity. But that's what Derrick's life is really like. A Light Library was put into Derrick's school. The program works like a traditional library, but with solar lamps (灯) . They can take them home in the evening so that they can study at night. With the solar lamp, Derrick is able to study for an hour and a half every evening.
Soon after the program was set up, she began to notice a difference in Derrick. Ms. Michelo said, "His favorite subjects at school are maths, science and English. But when he started using a solar lamp, his grades improved a lot. He is now the best student in the class. The program is really helpful to the students.
