I think a idol(偶像) is someone who we respect or love. Unlike many of |
|
my classmates, my idol is not a film star, a famous writer and a sportsman. |
|
He is either a world leader nor an important person from history. My idol |
|
is my dad. He always thinks about others after himself. This makes me |
|
respect himself very much. My family is not rich, and we do not own a big |
|
house or an expensive car. My dad had showed me that something is more |
|
important than money. He gives me his time and his advices. Although he |
|
is very busy for his work every day, he always makes time to stay with me. |
|
He teaches me that I can achieve anything unless I really work hard on it. |
|
My dad is my idol because he gives me the more important lessons in life. |

Maybe you are going to start a new school life now. Do you wonder how to make new friends in your new senior high school? Well, I hope this passage can help you make some friends.
Start a conversation before the bell rings. You can ask them what kind of music they like, what kind of clubs they often join in and what movies they've seen. Maybe you have some similar interests.
While you're preparing for your next class, ask them what class they have next, and who the teacher is. Usually, they will tell you more about the next class and the teacher. Now you already have something to talk about.
If you have the same class, or are going in the direction, walk together while talking about something. Good topics are teachers, sports, homework, food, fashion and pets. You can even plan on hanging out together sometime soon.
Ask for a piece of paper if you're taking notes with a pen, or a marker. If you're checking homework or highlighting (突出) something, ask for a pencil or an eraser.
If school just started, or if there was just a vacation break, ask the people who sit by you what they did over the break. You can share stories and it's an easy way to make friends!
A. Walk together B. Talk about the next class and the teacher C. Ask about interests D. Borrow something E. Get to your bus together F. Talk to the person sitting next to you |
Did you forget your password (密码) or your ID? Well, you'll never forget your face. Using your face as your ID is more convenient. You could take the subway or get on the plane with just your face alone. This is how facial recognition(人脸识别) works.
In China, facial recognition systems have been used in many areas. People can now get on the subway by using that. They just need to connect their online payment systems with the subway smartphone app. Students can pass through school gates by scanning their faces. Facial recognition systems have been making our life more convenient and often help us save lots of time.
However, there are some people who may feel uncomfortable because they don't know how their facial information is used or whether it will be let out. If so, the secret information will become known to the public. When someone steals their personal information, they can change their bank card and password, but can they change their face when their facial information is stolen?
As facial recognition is used more and more in our daily lives—from schools and subways to street comers and smartphones. Of course, we should also be concerned about its safety problems while enjoying the convenience that facial recognition brings to us.

The sweetest memory of my childhood is about a round table. When I was still little, my whole family would get together on different (tradition) festivals having dinner.
When I got a bit older, my aunt brought back her boyfriend and my grandma cheerfully added another seat to the round table. It seemed a little more crowded, but we all felt much (close) to each other. When I was in my (twenty), my grandpa passed away. That made us feel sad. H, when the whole family got together once again, we totally agreed that his chair, his bowl and his (chopstick) should remain the same. Even though his seat was e, we felt as if he had never left us.
We all have a table 1this in our homes. It is a sign of reunion of our family, showing our feelings. A the reasons why we come together may be different, the feelings behind it are the same. Usually different cultures (accept) by us around the table. What's more, we express the love not o for our family, but for a community, our nation and even the whole world.
I got up early and made a phone call with my mother. I told her everything about my recent life. She yawned (打哈欠) and we said goodbye to each other.
I didn't know then just 16 hours after that, my mother would leave me forever. My mother was my best friend. After she died, I felt that I was the loneliest girl in the world. I didn't know what to do and I just sat at the corner, with great sadness around me.
My mother gave me many things, but she'd never taught me how to cook. She had learned to cook when she was a teenager and she had some secret recipes(食谱). Everyone said my mother made the best roast beef in the world. But her favorite food was fish pie. Almost every week, she would buy a prepared fish pie from a nearby supermarket. Then she made her own white sauce (酱汁), poured the sauce over the pie and served the dish to us for dinner. I felt tired of it.
My mother never had time to teach me how to make a white sauce, and I never had a chance to ask her. Now that she was gone, I would have to teach myself.
One night, I sat in front of the electric stove in the kitchen, recalling the past memories with my mother. An idea suddenly came into my mind—I wanted to taste that dish again. I quickly opened the fridge and found a prepared fish pie in it. Then with my mother's recipe beside me, I tried to teach myself to make a white sauce. Halfway through the recipe, I couldn't believe it—I made it!
I poured the sauce over the fish pie and ate it. This time, I found it was the most delicious dish I'd ever had.
①We do want help our family, friends and classmates when they're having a hard time. But how can we help them out in right ways?
②Rachel Miller is a writer and she mentions some ways about (A) that in her book How to Be There for Yourself and Your People.
③Keep your focus on your friend. When a friend comes to you, it's a good idea to help them forget their terrible experience. But if you want to tell them a similar experience, it's not always welcome.
④If you do feel that your experience might be helpful to hear, Miller's advice is to let your friend know that you went through something similar, but allow them to decide if they want to hear about it at the moment.
⑤Ask how you can best help your friend. You may not know what kind of help your friend wants. Just ask! Miller advises to try these questions:"What's the best way I can help you right now?", "Do you need someone to talk to?", "Would you like my help?", or "How are you feeling about the hard experience you're going through?"
⑥(B)____ People may shy away from saying "I'm sorry" to the people in trouble, because you cannot feel the same way as them. But Miller says a real, honest "I'm sorry" can help to make your friend feel heard and accepted. "Sometimes there isn't a perfect way to make people feel better" she says. "But what you need to do is to say 'You're not alone. I'm with you. I'm so sorry it's happening to you. "
