A Tsinghua University student's online stories have moved many people to tears. With the help of scholarships(奖学金),he overcame many difficulties in life and tried to give back to society in return.
According to the student's record,he was awarded a total of 13,000 yuan through a scholarship for the poor students. Besides tuition(学费)and other fees,he was left with just 6,500 yuan, which included all his cost in a year. He lived on a hard life with only about 400 yuan a month, eating simply in the dining hall and avoiding class outings which cost more money.
In his second term,he found himself a teaching job near the university. The work helped him make 100 yuan an hour, letting him get 2,000-3,000 yuan a month. The student was not ready to spend up his money and he was really careful with that.
He didn't forget those who helped him. To express his gratitude , the student sent two hand-written letters to the company and the foundation that helped him every year, telling them about his studies and career plans. He would sometimes make a short video for the company, sending them birthday wishes.
He made up his mind to give back to society in return. After entering graduate school,he decided in turn to give away his hard-earned money to students in need. He gives away 3,200yuan to four students every term through a charity organization.
"Having received help myself,I believe I should give back to help match the kindness,"he said. "I hope one day I can set up a foundation like my fellow Tsinghua University schoolmates to help people in need. "

When he was nine years old,Felix Finkbeiner gave a class show on climate change. The young German spoke about destroying forests and its influence on the planet. At the end or his talk,he called on the people of his country to help plant one million trees. (37)____ However, before he was 20,Finkbeiner's efforts had resulted in the planting of more than 14billion trees around the world.
Finkbeiner and his classmates began the project named"Plant-for-the-Planet"by planting the first tree outside their school. Other schools followed the example, and news of the one-million challenge spread. As a result,Finkbeiner was asked to speak at the European Parliament(议会). Other invitations soon followed, and when he was just 13,he spoke at a United Nations conference(会议)in New York. "We cannot trust that adults alone will save our future,"he said in the speech. "We have to take our future in our own hands. "
Finkbeiner is now in his twenties, and Plant-for-the-Planet is an organization with around70,000 members. It works to teach people about climate change and to encourage the planting of more trees. Germany's one millionth tree was planted long ago. The goal now is one trillion-150 for every person on Earth.
Finkbeiner continues to give talks on climate change to world leaders. "I don't think we can give up on this generation of adults,"he says,"and wait 20 or 30 years for our generation to come to power. We don't have that time. All we can do is to push current world leaders in the right direction. "
Mona Island is an amazing place to take a vacation. Some of the animals living there can't be found anywhere else in the world. There are beautiful beaches and caves to explore. The sea around the island has colorful fishes. Why is Mona Island unusual?
Mona Island is very small. The government of Puerto Rico takes care of the island and has made it a natural reserve. That means the island's animals and plants are protected from being harmed by people. Mona Island is different from most places because people are not allowed to live there. Only a few park rangers(公园管理员)are able to stay. The park rangers' job is to keep Mona Island safe and beautiful. They insist that rules are followed. One rule is that only 100people at a time can visit the island. That way,the park rangers can make sure the land and animals remain safe.
What is there to see on Mona Island? One thing that most people enjoy is getting to see the Mona Island iguana(蜥蜴). This type of reptile(爬行动物)lives only on Mona Island. Almost 2,000 of these iguanas live on Mona Island. People also come to the island to get a close-up view of many kinds of fish and other sea life. They can swim far below the surface. They use special equipment to be able to breathe underwater. The water is almost transparent. Through the clear water, divers can see the bright colors of the fish.
Visitors can also explore caves. Some of the caves even have paintings and drawings on the walls and they were created by the Arawak and Tat no Indians who lived on the island hundreds of years ago. After a full day of fun activities, visitors can settle in,listen to the night sounds, and view the stars in the huge sky. Because the island is far away from other places,it is surrounded by darkness, and the stars are easier to see. Visitors say that watching the stars is amazing. It's the perfect end to a perfect day.
Social media(社交媒体)is certainly the most interesting place to learn others' opinions. You can read everything from strange ideas to true facts and everything in between. But when you're spending time online and reading so many opinions,it's quite possible that you'll sometimes see someone write something that you strongly disagree with. If you don't agree with, what do you do? ?
In fact, you might feel so strongly that you feel like you should reply to this person at once. . You finish writing out your reply, click(点击)"Post" and win the argument!
However,it's not really much of a victory. Most people don't like it when other people disagree with their ideas, especially online strangers. Its unlikely that they will change their opinions just because you argued with them. .
And the thing is, when you get in these kinds of fights online, it slowly influences you. You might not know it at first. . If you argue often, you start to enjoy arguing and then end up doing it even more. It's a dangerous cycle.
I guess the best thing to do is to tell yourself that most arguments aren't worth it .
A. There are much better things to do, whether online or in real life. B. In fact, you might make them feel more confident that they're correct. C. You might do some research and find some facts to reply to them. D. Do you try to argue or do you just ignore it? E. You might think you have won the argument. F. But the argument can actually have a bad effect on your mood. |

But they kept on racing and arrived at the hurdle. Gavin felt embarrassed to say"Alley-oop!"loudly,so he say it into the horse's ear in a low voice, and the horse crashed into the hurdle again.
At the third hurdle,Gavin thought,"It's no good. I have to do it right,or I will lose!"So this time,he said"Alley-oop!" than before. The horse jumped right the hurdle. This went on for the rest of the race. But Gavin and the horse ended up finishing third, they had lost time at the first two hurdles.
The trainer said angrily "what's wrong with you?". Gavin answered" is wrong with me. It's this horse. Is he deaf?"The trainer said,"Deaf? No,he's not deaf at all. He's blind!"

Going far with solar
Students from Eindhoven University of Technology, the Netherlands, made the world's first solar-powered motorhome(房车). It's called Stella Vita. It can run for 730 kilometers a day(24 hours). Rocking out on Mars
On Sept 1,NASA's Perseverance rover collected its first Mars rock sample(样本). This is the first Mars sample ever taken. A drill(电钻)at the end of Perseverance's arm made a hole in a rock. Then it took the sample out of the hole. It's about the size of a small pencil. In the future,NASA will collect more samples and send spacecraft to return these samples to Earth. Scientists will look for signs of life on Mars by studying these samples.
Leading the blind
Smart cars, smart phones…hings are becoming smart, including canes. Researchers at Stanford University in America have developed a smart cane that guides the blind. The team has equipped a traditional cane with GPS and a laser-based(基于激光的)technology used by some self-driving cars. It can tell the user how far he or she is from dangerous things and it can call for help with one-touch SOS function when accidents happen. What's more, with the smart cane, blind users can walk about20 percent faster.
