l joined a band(乐队)as a drummer in my middle school. I thought it would be fun playing the drum and meeting new friends. At first it was easy, but a month later, it got difficult. I was the only one who couldn't keep pace (节奏)with the other players.
Our teacher, Angie, singled me out to keep practicing while everyone else got to relax. I felt ashamed(羞愧的) as my teammates watched me fail so many times. Finally I got so tired of practicing that I didn't care about doing it right.
"Are you giving up on me. Steve?" Angie asked.
"Yes, I am, "I shouted. Angie sent me inside the music room where I cried out. Then she came in and said. "Don't be sad. I believe you can make it!" She told me never to give up. She left me alone and I realized Angie was right—by giving up, I was also giving up on the team and myself.
With her comfort, I decided to go on practicing. However, I still couldn't play well. Knowing my difficulties, my teammates gave me a hand. They spent about three more hours practicing with me every week. Thanks to their support and help, I began to keep pace with them. Later, we per-formed wonderfully in an important show.
In the whole process, I was taught that although we each had our own job to do in a show, it would take all of us working together to make the show great. I felt accepted and made great progress. I love everyone in the band. I can't imagine what my school life would be like without them.
In China, each year we produce about 150 million tons of city waste according to a report. Where does the waste go? People usually burn or bury(埋)it. On the other hand, we receive waste from some developed countries. We get useful materials from it. What about the useless part? Still burned or buried. But is it a proper way?
Waste pollutes the environment, harms people's health and causes animals to die. It also gets in the way of green and sustainable development. We can't make money at the cost of the environment. We should leave clean water and green mountains to our next generations(一代人).
China is getting really serious about waste now.
We are taking less waste from developed countries. From January 2018, China started to stop24 kinds of waste coming into our country. And more laws and rules about dealing with waste have been made. Anyone who breaks the law will be punished.
China also tries to put waste into good use. One example is the waste electricity factories. They burn waste to make electricity in a green way. No harmful gases or water will get into the environment.
The Chinese government is encouraging people to do waste sorting(分类). Cities like Shanghai, Chongqing and Beijing have their own sorting systems. More will join them soon. As President Xi Jinping said during a visit to Shanghai, waste sorting is a new fashion(时尚). More and more people are forming the habit of separating their waste.

You have lots of things you'd like to do. But sometimes it's hard to get to the finish line –just like your goal. How can you break your bad habits and develop good ones? Here are a few opinions we often get from kids, followed by ideas that might help.
●I can't get away from screens.
If you usually spend time lying on the sofa and watching TV programs or a video when you're bored, go somewhere else instead. Take a book to your room or your violin to the backyard. Or ask if you can help cook in the kitchen.

Start with" showing up." Then take one small step or do one tiny task, followed by another and another. For example, how do I practice the piano? First sit at it. Then play one note at a time.
Starting with a super - simple step often helps. Why? It's easy, quick, and gets you in action.
●I have no time.
Take a look at the choices you make about how you spend time. Do those choices show what's important to you? Can you spare 10-minutes a day to work on a goal? Let's suppose you want to be singer. Talk with a parent about why your goal counts. Discuss whether you can let go of something less important to free up time to achieve it.

It was Friday afternoon. After getting off the school bus, Laura ran into the house .
"How was school, Lara?" asked her mom.

Laura was woken up early on Labor Day morning her dad. He said that in honor of(纪念)Labor Day, the family planned to do some cleaning. Laura couldn't believe it. She began to wonder this was just a bad dream.

Last year, I went to Italy as an exchange student. Before leaving, I asked my mother gifts I should take to the teachers and the students there. Mom said that the Chinese fan was a good choice, for China is praised "the Fan Kingdom". I couldn't agree more, because it is more than a tool for cooling. I went shopping and bought three kinds of Chinese fans. The first kind was the feather(羽毛)fan for the teachers, which was made of bird feathers. The fans I bought for the girls silk fans. As for the boys, I picked the folding fans.
At the welcome party in Italy, my new teachers and classmates were all excited get the wonderful fans. And they were even more excited after learning about the stories and culture behind them.
