When a wildfire burned down their home in California in 1963, Chris and Lindy Date thought some of their valuable things were gone forever. The couple, who married1Cambridge shire(剑桥郡) before moving to California in the 1970s, were especially 2 to have lost their wedding photos.
3, Mr. Date decided to make a "long shot request" to the county's archives service (档案服务处).
Their wedding was at Mrs. Date's parents house in Land beach, a few miles north of Cambridge and it 4 by Ramsey and Mus Pratt.
"I did some online research and found that the company had donated their negatives(底片) to the Cambridge shire Collection 5,"Mr. Date said. "Ramsey and Mus Pratt was quite famous in Cambridge at the time, 6 pictures of many of the city's best-known names."
He wrote to the archive "more in hope than expectation" to ask 7 the negatives had been kept.
"They replied quickly and said they had photos 8 they believed were ours and sent three for me to check,"Mr. Date said." I was so pleased and amazed 9them."
Steve Criswell, 10 local councilor, said, "We have devoted libraries and a local study team who are trying hard to help the public no matter how difficult it is to satisfy their requests."

The fishermen comforted him. At this moment, an old man asked, "Did you always teach him how to do 7?"

The Chinese government raised the protection level of Chinese pangolins(穿山甲) to the top level on World Environment Day -- June 5th. Pangolins used to be at the second level under national protection. This act makes people pay more attention to ecological civilization(生态文明). It also shows our great determination to fight against the illegal hunting(非法捕猎) and the trading of wild animals and other things made from them.
According to a national wildlife study in the 1990s, there were about 60,000 Chinese pangolins in 11 provinces, including Yunnan, Hunan, Guangdong, Sichuan and Zhejiang. Until now, pangolins have become fewer and fewer because of the living places that are being destroyed, crazy hunting and smuggling. In 2017, Chinese pangolins were placed on the Red List of Threatened Species after a team of experts believed their number had dropped by 90 percent in the past years.
"The value of pangolins to the ecosystem is much more than the value of their meat or scales(鳞).There is a long way to go in protecting them, but we can start by saying no to things made from them," said Zhou Fei, chief program officer of the World Wildlife Fund of China.
What's more, the pangolin has a very strong response(反应) to stress, which means that it easily becomes nervous when it is caught.
Pangolin scales have been taken away from the Chinese Pharmacopeia(药典). It means the scales will no longer be used as a kind of medicine.
Tons of garbage is stored all over the suburbs of the city. It's smelly. It's too difficult to sort it out. Water pollution seriously affects people's lives. And the factories do not clean the water before emission(排放).At the same time, there is a serious shortage of water resources. The area of land desertification(荒漠化) is expanding and there are less trees in the forest because humans cut down trees and make money from them Air pollution is becoming more and more serious, and carbon dioxide emissions(排放)are increasing. And factories that burn coal also pollute the air with a lot of black smoke. Large number of animals are killed in coastal areas as food, which damages to the diversity(多样性)of biological resources and even some species would be extinct(灭绝的). |
A. Stop cutting down trees and start planting trees where the land desertification is serious. After that, take good care of them so that they can grow up healthily. B. Go to work by bus or bike rather than by car in order to reduce carbon dioxide emissions. In this way we will have cleaner air and a better sky. C. Ask people to stop eating the extinct species. Those who eat them will get a serious punishment. And then set up a homeland for them to live happily. D. Drive cars to work or school every day and don't share cars with others. Then refuse the invitation of giving others a ride as well. E. People should try their best to use less clean water and save more water. The government should keep an eye on the waste water from factories. F. Publish a rule to require people to sort out trash and carry it out in each community. Try to hand out advertisements to arouse(唤起)people's awareness. G. Keep a panda as a pet at home and feed it carefully with bamboo or leaves, but never take it outside in order to protect it. What's more, don't hand it to the zoo. |
The eighth of August is National Fitness Day. It was up in 2009 in memory of the success of Beijing Olympic Games. It advocates(提倡) taking part in sports activities which are held by some organizations. In my opinion, it makes large number of people know about the of exercising and reminds people to take exercise.
Sports are necessary to everyone. exercise, our immunity(免疫力)will decrease and we are going to become sick soon. Doing exercise may be hard and tiring. However, it not only helps us release(释放) pressure also makes us feel more active. But to play sports correctly? Here are some pieces of advice. of all, we should warm up before doing sports and stretch after exercising. Moreover, pay attention the amount of exercise to avoid getting injured. Afterwards, don't drink too water while exercising. Last but not least, you can try to make it a habit. Don't stop and you will benefit from your daily exercise.
you want to do exercise now, don't hesitate(犹豫)and just do it at once. Put on your sports shoes and go outside. Go to meet a healthier life!
Recently, volunteering(志愿服务)is more and more popular in our daily lives. It is becoming a common thing among people of all ages. We believe that being helpful is one of the most important qualities(品质). In some Chinese high schools, the students need to volunteer for at least 40 hours to graduate. There are many kinds of voluntary work, such as organizing books in libraries, taking care of children in hospital, delivering food to the old and so on.
Tom once volunteered in a primary school. His job was to help students. When he first started, he was nervous. Then, as time went on, he became more and more interested in his job. He worked as a volunteer in the school for 2 months. He got along well with the students. When the voluntary work was over, he felt happy and excited.
