When I was ten, my mother worked all day, so I had to take care of my younger brother. At that time, my little brother was about four years old and he 1 mum all the time.
One day, after I had given him his dinner, he started crying for mum. He was so young and really needed mum. So I dressed him, 2 his shoes, carried him on my back and walked out. Soon he fell asleep. About half an hour later, I found that he lost a shoe while he was 3, I took him off my back and put him 4. I knew we needed to find that shoe, for our mother couldn't afford to buy new shoes. I had to go back to 5 it, so I told my brother to wait right there. A man heard it and stopped me just 6 I went away. He asked me, "You are leaving your brother here to find the shoe? What will you do if he is not here when you return?" I didn't know 7 to answer that question. He continued, "It's OK if you can't find the shoe, but it is not OK to lose your 8." Then he sent us to mum's workplace by taxi.
During my whole life I have received the 9 from many strangers. I feel sorry that I can't find them and say "10". I do not even remember what they looked like, but they taught me a lesson — people are more important than things.
I'm my mother's third girl. When I was born, the doctor gently explained to my mother that my left arm was missing, below the elbow (肘). Then she gave her some advice, "Don't treat her any differently from others." And she did.
There are five girls in my family, and we all had to help out. Once when I was about seven, I came out of the kitchen, "Mum, I can't peel potatoes. I only have one hand." "Get back to peel these potatoes, and don't ever use that as an excuse for anything again!"
Of course I could peel potatoes — with my good hand and my other arm. "Jenny, if you try hard," she said, "you can do anything."
Once in the second grade, our teacher had each of us race across the monkey bar (攀爬架).
When it was my turn, I said no. Some kids laughed. I went home crying.
The next afternoon Mum took me back to the school playground. "Now, pull up with your right arm." She advised. She praised me when I made progress. I'll never forget when I was crossing the bar, the kids were standing there with their mouths open.
It was the way with everything. Mum had the courage to face anything. And she taught me I could, too.

Yangzhou paper cutting, with a history of 2,000 years, can be dated back to the Sui Dynasty, making Yangzhou one of the places where paper cutting first became popular.
In the Sui Dynasty, the people of Yangzhou would cut colourful paper or silk and satin (缎子) to celebrate festivals. It is said that Emperor Yang came to Yangzhou three times. In winter, the flowers and trees in the garden became dry and weak. The emperor ordered the gril servants to cut fine silk and satin into flowers and leaves and use them to decorate the trees and lakes, copying nicely the looks of spring and summer. Since then, "colorful cutting" has become a popular art in Yangzhou.
In the Tang Dynasty, the paper cutting industry was highly developed and a large amount of high-quality paper was made as presents to the Court (宫廷).
In the Qing Dynasty, because of the economic development, the people of Yangzhou became interested in wearing fine clothing, especially embroidered (刺绣的) clothing. The embroidered designs were based on paper-cuts, the most well-know of them was from Bao Jun, a paper cutting master. He won a high reputation (名声) as Magic Scissors for his wonderful cutting skills.
After the People's Republic of China was started, the Chinese government accepted the importance of paper cutting like many other arts and skills. In 2007, China Paper-cuts Museum opened to the public in the back garden of the Wang's Residence (住所), Yangzhou, greatly helping the development of Yangzhou paper cutting.
The world has been troubled by COVID-19 for over a year. Masks (口罩) are really important to everybody during the pandemic (疫情). We all wear masks every day. . This could become a big environmental problem.
In a study, scientists from the US and Denmark said that people around the world are now using 129 billion face masks every month.. What a large number it is!
According to Elvis Genbo Xu from the University of Southern Denmark, disposable (一次性的) masks are plastic products. . People think that they are a new kind of pollution.
