Cute lion heads, loud gongs(锣)and drums, an excited crowd-these are all parts of the lion dances you often see during Chinese holidays or at the openings of new shops and restaurants.
Ancient Chinese people thought the lion stood for(代表)braveness. It can drive away bad things and bring good luck. As one of the most well-known folk dances in China, the lion dance has been performed for more than 2,000 years. It was very popular during the Tang Dynasty(618—907).
Wang Rentao, 41, has been performing the lion dance for 28 years. Born in Zhongkeng village in Dongguan, Guangdong, Wang watched villagers perform it when he was young." It's a historical tradition here and the love for lion dance is in everyone's blood," Wang said.
Now the head of the village's lion dance performers, Wang is proud of the group's achievements. "We've won many prizes and taken part in many important events, including the celebration of the 70th birthday of New China at Tian'anmen Square," Wang said. Wang's group is famous for dancing on quincuncial piles(梅花桩), one of the most diffcult lion dance skills. Performers jump from one pile to another at a height of about 2.5meters.The distance between the piles can be as far as 1.8 meters.
"The training is really difficult. Performers need to have lots of good practice of kungfu skills first. Even with that, they can fall from the pile and get hurt," Wang said. "But that's also the amazing part of lion dance, the part that makes it valuable heritage."
The lion dance is popular not just in China, but in overseas Chinese communities. Many overseas Chinese see the lion as a symbol of China. The lion dance reminds them of the culture of their homeland.
Some chicken feeders say the coronavirus(冠状病毒)has led more people in the United States to start raising their own chickens. The practice provides people with a new interest, animal friendships and fresh eggs.

They had talked about setting up a chicken house for years. They finally did so this summer. The couple's three children were excited when their parents finally agreed to buy chicks. "These chickens are like my favorite thing, honestly," said 12-year-old Violet. "They actually have personalities once you get to know them." The baby birds lived inside the family's home for six weeks before moving into their yard. It now houses the five hens and protects them from foxes and other animals that could hurt them.
Mark Podgwaite is a chicken feeder. He said he and other feeders have noticed an increase in need for chicks since the coronavirus began. The Abta family bought their chicks from Mill Valley Chickens. The farming business sells chickens and feed. It also builds chicken houses. Owner Leslie Citroen offers first-time chicken keepers some classes. She says her sales grew 400 percent in 2020.
Citroen said most of her buyers in 2020 were first-time chicken keepers. Some of the mare parents looking for something to keep their children busy while at home. Others are "preppers"—people who want their own supplies(供给) of things if the world falls apart.

This is the story of a boy who grew up to be a great footballer. His name is Pele(贝利), and he was born in 1940 in a small village, in Brazil.
Pelé's father was a professional footballer, but a serious injury(重伤) meant that he never made much money from the game. So Pelé's family was quite poor.
Pele did lots of jobs to help his parents. But he also played football in the streets with his friends. He decided he wanted to be a footballer like his father. He played for several local teams, then he was given a chance by a big club called Santos when he was 15. He was very talented, so Santos chose him for the team.
Then he was chosen to play for his country, Brazil. In his first two international games, he scored three goals. Soon football fans started calling him "The Black Pearl(珍珠)".
There was a World Cup coming up in Sweden, and he was picked for the team. Pele was 18when he arrived in Sweden in 1958. He was the youngest player in the Brazilian team, but everyone was expecting great things from him. Pele didn't let everyone down. Thanks to him, Brazil won the World Cup. Pele became famous all around the world after that.
Unfortunately, he was injured in the 1962 and 1966 World Cup. Pele watched sadly as Brazil went on to win the cup without him in 1962. He wondered if he would ever play for Brazil again. Finally, he showed to the world that he was still the greatest player at the heart of the greatest team. He helped his country won the World Cup for the third time in 1970.
Pele never played in another World Cup and retired(退休)as a player in 1977.He is probably the most famous footballer ever. The Brazilians call Pele the King of Football!
