New York, London, Paris and other bi g cities are interesting places to live in. There are1interesting things to see and to do. You can go to2kinds of museums and see plays or films. You can also do shopping to3things from all over the world.
But there are serious(严重的)4in big cities too. The cost of living is5, and there are too many people in some places of the big cities. Every year many people come to the cities because they can6find jobs there, study at a good school, and receive good medical(医学的) care(看护;护理). But 7these people can't find jobs or good places to live in. Also too many people live in a small space. This makes it8to keep the cities safe and clean.

Did you take a trip to New York? Yes, I did. In fact, I lived in the city for one year. It is a busy city with many tall buildings and all kinds of people from different countries. There are many famous places to visit, like Broadway, Central Park and Times Square. I like collections of ancient(古代的) works of art so I often visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art. There you can also see some Chinese ancient paintings. Sometimes 1 went shopping on New York's Fifth Avenue. I could buy many nice things there. Besides, it was wonderful to look at the Statue of Liberty in New York Harbour.
There is a film about New York. Its name is The Day After Tomorrorw. I like it very much, but I don't like the ending! If things are like what the ending of the film presented, it will truly be a bad dream.
Lion was the King of the Jungle(灌木丛). One day, Giraffe told Lion, "Rabbit says he is the new King of the Jungle." "What?" Lion was very angry. He went to meet Rabbit. The other animals followed him to see what he would do. "Rabbit," said Lion, "Why do you say that you are the new King of the Jungle?" "Oh, but it's true," said Rabbit. "I'm faster and cleverer than you. We can have a competition（竞赛）.""All right," said Lion.
Rabbit took Lion to a deep ravine (深谷). He said, "If I fly down to the ravine faster than you, I am faster and cleverer than you. So I go, or you will go first?" "Of course I will go first," said Lion, "I am the King of the Jungle!" He then threw himself into the deep ravine. Rabbit smiled and said to the other animals. "I am your new king now. I am faster and cleverer than Lion." The other animals didn't understand.
"Lion was stupid! Anyone will die after jumping into the ravine!"

You are probably feeling excited and a little sad that summer is over. Some kids feel nervous or a little scared on the first day of school because of the new things, new teachers, and maybe even a new school. Luckily, these new worries only stay for a little while.

Education plays an important part in modern life. However, in some poor areas, many children can't afford the expenses of schooling (付学费) and are forced (被迫) to leave school. At the same time, our country is not able to invest (投资) too much in it. Under this condition, the Project Hope is necessary to our country. Firstly, it will create conditions (创造条件) for the children to go back to school. Secondly, it can make more people educated. So it can lead to the improvement of people's standards (标准) of life.

This teenager can- and his mum's very happy with him.
He goes to school, does his homework, meets his friends and enjoys playing sports. But between 5:30 and 6:30 from Monday to Friday, Tom does something different. He cooks dinner for all the family: his mum, dad, younger brother Joe and elder sister Emma.
“ Maths and English are important， of course， but they need other skills too to help themselves in today's world. First I taught Tom how to cook easy meals like pizza, eggs and chips. Yesterday he made vegetable soup. It was good! We all liked it very much," Tom's mum says.
“I love cooking and I think I'm really good at it. I don't know why. It isn't difficult and it's great fun!” Tom says.
