In the modern world, people usually buy a fishing rod(杆) from a store. However, you can use a piece of bamboo to make your own fishing rod at home.
First, you should find a bamboo cane(条,竿) that is about your own height. When choosing the bamboo cane for your fishing rod, find one that is straight, easy to hold onto and light enough to carry. Using a bamboo cane that is too long and heavy will make it difficult to transport. If it's too short, you can't catch a fish with it.
After you find a good bamboo cane, you must remove the leaves and outer bark or "skin". You will be left with a cane pole. The third step requires you to use sandpaper and make the cane pole smooth.
The fourth step is to dry out the cane. Depending on the temperature and humidity, it may take anytime from three weeks to three months to dry properly. Do not leave it in direct sunlight or it will get too dry and can easily break. Test if the cane is dry by swinging(摆动) it in the air and making sure it doesn't break or bend.
The fifth step is to attach the fishing line to the end of your fishing rod. The length of the fishing line should be as long as the rod itself, plus an extra half meter. You need to be careful when tying the fishing line to the pole. Don't tie it too tightly or too loosely. The final step is to attach the fishing hook and small weight at the end of the fishing line.
At last, your fishing rod is ready to be used for fishing!
