As a young boy, I knew what people said was not always what they meant or were feeling. And I knew it was possible to get others to do what I wanted if I read their real feelings and responded suitably to their needs. At the age of eleven, I sold sponge rubber (海绵橡胶) door-to-door after school and quickly worked out how to tell if someone was likely to buy from me. When I knocked on a door, if someone told me to go away but their hands were open and they showed their palms, I knew it was safe to continue with my show because they weren't angry or threatening although they may have a cold attitude. As a teenager, I became a cookware salesperson, and my ability to read people earned me enough money to buy my first house. Selling gave me the chance to meet people and study them close and to know whether they would buy or not, simply by watching their body language.
I joined the life insurance (保险) business at the age of twenty. And I went on to break several sales records for my company, becoming the youngest person to sell over a million dollars' worth of business in my first year. This achievement allowed me to become a member of the well-known Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT). I was lucky that the skills I'd learned as a boy in watching body language while selling cookware could be used in this new area, and were directly related to the success I could have in any business closely connected with people.
Chinese traditional painting and dance are two vital parts of the art world. But what about when they meet each other?
This year, a dance drama titled Poetic Dance: The Journey of a Legendary Landscape Painting (《只此青绿》) was staged on CCTV's Spring Festival Gala and became a hit.
According to CCTV, this poetic dance program was inspired by the 900-year-old Chinese painting A Panorama of Rivers and Mountains (《千里江山图》). Created by Song Dynasty painter Wang Ximeng at about 18, the painting is amazing in its huge size, rich coloration and the expressive details, reported CCTV. It shows a Chinese blue-green landscape: "mountains and groupings of infinite rise and fall between cloudless sky and rippling water".
When the dancers moved elegantly, audiences seemed to be looking at the moving mountains and rivers. "It brings me a pure experience of beauty. It is not only a drama but also an 'exhibition'. Vast mountains and rivers are coming to life!" Internet user Mo Weisha wrote in a review. "More than a thousand years later, green mountains and rivers still wow people as they did long ago."
Some people even decided to watch the dance again when it was staged in the theaters later. In fact, in recent years, more and more modern shows pay attention to Chinese traditional culture and have received warm welcome. As for why, it is due to people's great love for traditional culture.
"The younger generations have grown up with a more open mindset. They hug Chinese culture and are proud of it." Yao Wei, director of Henan TV Station's Innovation Center, told China Daily.
As aging population gets bigger and dementia (老年痴呆症) more common, more families are struggling with a complex question: How do you support a love done with dementia, especially when you have a full-time job and several kids?
Reg Urbanowski may have an answer to this pressing issue—robots.
He and his team managed to develop a new type of robots named TP robots. Looking like stand-up vacuum cleaners (真空吸尘器) attached to an iPad, they can be activated remotely (远程地) via a smartphone and guided remotely by a controller app similar to the way a mouse is used on a desktop computer. All possess audio and visual communication capabilities, allowing the operator to be "in the room" to interact with Mom or Dad.
He believes that caregivers and family members can use a TP robot to "look in" on people with mild dementia. He says, "TP robots provide an effective solution for reducing caregivers' burden, especially for those who have career or other out-of-home activities."
Urbanowski and his team have carried out a study that involves providing TP robots for 15 Toronto families. These robots are programmed to provide reminders of necessary daily routine like turning off the gas, taking medicine and having dinner. They will also help ensure patients are getting the exercise they need to maintain their health and well-being.
Erin Crawford, Program Director with the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, says she has faith that TP robots will prove beneficial, particularly when it comes to reminding people with dementia to do certain things at certain times. "It means that family members that can't be there, for whatever reason, know that those things are still happening," she says.
You have to write a movie review for school and now what? Where to start? How to make it look more "academic"?
Watch the movie twice and take notes of both major and minor events and characters. There is always something we ignore or forget.
Carry out a complete research. Research is equally important. Look for details, such as the name of filmmaker and his/her motivation (动机) to make that film, locations, plot, historic events that work as an inspiration (灵感) for the movie. Basically, your research should serve to collect information that provides more depth to the review.
Don't start working on the review if you aren't sure that you understand the film. Evaluate the movie from beginning to an end. Re-watch it if you find some parts confusing. Only when you understand events that happened on the screen will you find it easier to create the review.
Draft an outline that you will follow to write the review in a brief fashion. Include examples for claims you make about the movie. If a character is poorly developed, name examples too. Also, provide examples when commenting dialogues, locations, plot and everything.

Nowadays, more and more people enjoy watching plays in the theater, so do my wife and I. We'll go to the theater whenever we have time. But before we buy tickets, we would like to know whether the play is good or bad.
