Kids Night Out — Fun Saturday Night Parties
We miss our campers between summer and school breaks, so we are starting a monthly Kids Night Out event to keep our community together more often.

AGES
We'll be having a mixed age group:
•Ages 4 ½ -10, with up to 27 campers.
•Youth Leaders, ages 11+.
ACTIVITIES & DINNER
In downtown Berkeley, we have wonderful outdoor play areas — sand box, climbing wall, big yards for basketball and other games. For indoor play, we have art activities, board games, and a dance party with light sticks.
For parents: the place is near to movie theaters and restaurants!
We provide a vegetarian dinner with healthy ingredients. Dinner is made by Chef Brad, who always brings so much love and care to his meals.
FEES
$60/night if you sign up by 2:00 pm on the day before camp, otherwise $75/night.
$300 for all 6 nights.

Our staff are careful, creative and enthusiastic (热情的). They are employed to guide and enrich our programs and develop friendship among campers.

Located in the northeast of Italy, Venice is wellknown for its cultural treasures, romantic atmosphere (氛围) and unusual livingonwater experience. The city spreads out over 118 islands, which are linked by more than 400 bridges, in the Venetian Lagoon.
Venice's historical center consists of six regions. Italy in the south, the busiest main region, is linked by the Rialto Bridge. The famous stone arch bridge crosses Venice's main waterway—the Grand Canal. When night falls, many tourists enjoy dinner at the outside rabies by the Grand Canal while watching colourfully lit boats going by.
Near the end of the Sshaped Grand Canal lies St. Mark's Basilica, a mustsee. Inside, beautiful mosaics (镶嵌图案) tell stories of Bible figures. Nearby are the Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs. These were made famous by Lord Byron,"I stood in Venice on the Bridge of Sighs, a palace and prison on each hand. "The story has it that if a couple passes under the bridge, their love will last forever.
In the square outside the Basilica, lovers of literature can sit at Caffe Florian, regarded as the oldest coffee house in Europe. Charles Dickens, Henry James as well as Lord Byron enjoyed the drink here.
Art lovers should buy a museum pass and visit some of the city's museums. They can view works by Venetian masters like Giovanni, Titian and Tintoretto.
On five small islands in the Venetian Lagoon, Murano has been home to glassmakers since 1291. Tourists can visit factories, studios and the Glass Museum. Glass artists produce everything from simple souvenir pieces to beautiful works of contemporary art. Only glassworks made using traditional methods on Murano can be called Murano Glass. The nearby island of Burano is famous for lace making and colourful houses. Looking at the colourful houses and kaleidoscopic (万花筒似的) streets makes people feel as if they were walking in the fairy tale.
The City of Water promises beauty of all kinds, and it definitely lives up to its promise.
At the end of my third year at university, I still had over 50 meals left in my dining account. So I swiped my meal card until I had nothing left, packed all of the meals and drove to Center City to give them all out to anyone I could find who needed a meal.
When I returned to campus, I wanted to create a formal meal donation program and after months of meetings, I convinced my university to launch this program. But what started with meals quickly evolved into something much greater when I learned about how much food was also going to waste from grocery stores and restaurants in the area.
Approximately 1/3 of all food produced in the United States (126 billion pounds) is thrown in landfills each year. Meanwhile, 40 million Americans are suffering from food insecurity in the US, and 1 in 5 people are suffering in Philadelphia.
My solution was called Sharing Surplus. Then, our team created a transportation network to pick up surplus food on a regular basis and deliver it to local hunger—relief organizations. In the last twelve months, we have delivered more than 75,000 pounds of food to shelters and soup kitchens fighting food insecurity.
Graduating from college soon, I am ready to pursue Sharing Surplus as my full-time job. Now let's talk about Gen Z (those born between 1996 and 2010). Our generation will soon be responsible for the fate of our planet, which is equally exciting and challenging. More than ever, we must look closely at the problems that our society faces today and try to imagine big ideas that can solve them.
When I lived in Spain, some Spanish friends of mine decided to visit England by car. Before they left, they asked me for advice about how to find accommodation (住宿). I suggested that they should stay at "bed and breakfast" houses, because this kind of accommodation gives a foreign visitor a good chance to speak English with the family. My friends listened to my advice, but they came back with some funny stories.
"We didn't stay at "bed and breakfast" houses," they said, "because we found that most families were away on holiday."
I thought this was strange. Finally I understood what had happened. My friends spoke little English, and they thought "VACANCIES" meant "holidays", because the Spanish word for "holidays" is "vacaciones". So they did not go to house where the sign outside said "VACANCIES ", which in English means there are free rooms. Then my friends went to house where the sign said "NO VACANCIES", because they thought this meant the people who owned the house were not away on holiday. But they found that these houses were all full. As a result, they stayed at hotels!
We laughed about this and about mistakes my friends made in reading other signs. In Spanish, the word "DIVERSION" means fun. In English, it means that workmen are repairing the road, and that you must take a different road. When my friends saw the word "DIVERSION" on a road sign, they thought they were going to have fun. Instead, the road ended in a large hole.
English people have problems too when they learn foreign languages. Once in Paris, when someone offered me some more coffee, I said "Thank you" in French. I meant that I would like some more. However, to my surprise, the coffee pot was taken away! Later I found out that "Thank you" in French means "No, thank you."
How to Make the World a Better Place
When you think about people who have made the world a better place, you probably think of famous scientists or great leaders. That is not all the truth. An act of kindness can bring a smile to a person's face even if only for a moment.
Give away your money.
For example, if you want to help hungry children, you can try to find an international organization that provides food for those in poor areas. Every cent you give away will mean a lot.
Help a stranger.
Your small actions can brighten the day of others. Hold the door for someone whose hands are full. Help the blind cross the street. The key is expecting nothing in return for your acts of kindness.
Care about those you know.
Show the people close to you how much you care about them. Tell them they mean a lot to you. Make a beautiful gift for a friend. Take your husband to his favourite fun place if he has had a hard week.
Be grateful to others.
Have you had good service in a restaurant? Thank the waiter. Do you have a very good neighbour who is always there when you need her? Tell her how much you appreciate her being in your life.
If a friend needs skills in a certain area, offer your advice. Perhaps she is struggling to set up a computer, and you know how to do that. Offer whatever ability you have, but always remember to be polite.

I used to be a very selfcentered (自我中心的) person，but in the past two years I have really changed. I have started to think about other people1I think about myself. I am happy that I am becoming a 2 person.
I think my 3 started when I was at Palomar College. At first, I just wanted to get my degree and be left alone. I thought I was smarter than everyone else，so I hardly ever 4 to anyone in my classes. By the end of my first semester, I was really lonely. It seemed as if everyone but me had made friends and was having fun. So tried a(n) 5. I started asking people around me how they were doing, and if they were having trouble I 6 to help. That was really a big 7for me. By the end of the year, I had several new friends, and two of them are still my best friends today.
A bigger cause of my new 8, however, came when I took a parttime job at a Vista Nursing Home. One old lady there who had Alzheimer's disease became my friend. Every time I came into her room, she was so9because she thought I was her daughter. Her real daughter never 10 her, so I took her place. She let me11that making others feel good made me feel good, too, when she died, I was 12, but I was very grateful to her.
I think I am a much 13 person today than I used to be, and I hope I will not forget these experiences. They have14 me to care about other people more than about myself. I15who I am today, and I could not say that a few years ago.
On Sept 30 hundreds of people attended the premiere(首映) of the movie My People, My Country at a Los Angeles cinema. (wave) Chinese flags in their hands, the audience sang My People, My Country, its theme song, together at the start of the film. The song is a patriotic(爱国的) Chinese classic, is known in every household. It was (original) performed by the singer Li Guyi in 1985 and was reworked for the movie by the pop singer Faye Wong.
The film consists of seven short stories from seven directors and make use of nation's greatest technological and cultural (achieve). instead of focusing on the historic moments themselves, the film show these events through the eyes of ordinary people who devoted themselves to or (affect) by them. The short story, The Guiding Star, for example, follows a pair of brothers. They (see) the landing of the capsule of the Shenzhou Ⅺ manned spacecraft on Nov 18, 2016 in Inner Mongolia and were full pride and hope at that moment. "If a person meets a historic opportunity to be changed, the (inspire) power is unbelievable," Chen Kaige told China. Org. cn. "In my story, the landing of the Shenzhou Ⅺ changed the lives of two teenagers, changed their fate and allowed (they) to gain new hope."
