"BANG!" I pulled the door heavily behind me. "Never set foot in this house again!" stormed father. I rushed out of the flat and ran along the street.
A young man who held a child in his arms walked past me. I felt as if I saw my childhood from another space: happy and carefree. But now...I don't know whether it is because I have grown up or because Dad is getting old. We differ in our ways of thinking. We are just like two people coming from two different worlds. It feels like there is an iron(铁制的) door between us that can never be opened.
I wandered in the streets, until I had only the street lights to keep me company. My heart was frozen on this hot summer night. When I finally reached the high-rise apartment block in which I lived, I saw that the light was still on.
I thought to myself, "Is Father waiting for his boy, or still angry with him?"
All the lights were off except Father's.
Dad was always like this. Maybe he didn't know how to express himself. After an argument he had the habit of tucking me underneath the covers(掖被子) while I was sleeping. This was how he always was. He had been a leader for so long that telling everyone else what to do had become his second nature.
The light was still on.
"Am I wrong?" I whispered, maybe... With the key in hand, I was as nervous as I had ever been. At last, I decided to open the door. As soon as I opened the door, tears ran down my cheeks. I suddenly realized that the iron door that I had imagined between us did not exist at all. Love——it's second to none.
All parents know exercise is important for children: It can lower heart risks, control weight and help kids do better in school. Experts have also proved that outdoor activities at an early age can help children form healthy habits for life. But don't expect kids to understand about those things. Some kids just aren't into exercise, but that shouldn't mean they have to be addicted to the TV. So parents could do something to help inactive kids fall in love with physical activity.
If parents sit in front of the TV every night, kids aren't likely to respect restrictions(限制) you set on their screen time either. So check your own behavior and serve as a role model by putting physical activity into your everyday life. Walk instead of driving if possible. Regularly join in activities that you enjoy and let your kids see how much you enjoy them. In this way, they may "do as the Romans do". Make sure that children's fitness is included in the family schedule as well as school, work and shopping. Then you and your children are more likely to stick to an exercise plan. And your children will begin to expect that Sunday morning usually means a hike ride, and on a couple of nights after dinner the family takes a light walk through the neighborhood.
Children who aren't naturally good at physical activity may be worried about their lack of physical skills and even fear public failure. They need all the support and encouragement from parents. Negative comments don't work and will only make them feel bad. Remember, focus on the effort——choosing to be active or trying to improve a skill——rather than the result.
China is removing one of the world's most trafficked(非法买卖) animals, the pangolin, from its list of animals used for traditional medicine.
Pangolins, despite being covered in scales(鳞片), grow to around the size of a house cat. Their scales are made of keratin——the same material found in fingernails. They use those scales to protect themselves from enemies in the wild, but in Asia, these same scales are traded for medicine. Tens of thousands are killed every year, and one million pangolins are believed to have been trafficked between 2000 and 2013. Last year, authorities seized more than 130 tons of pangolin-related products, a figure believed to represent as many as 400,000 of the animals, according to WildAid conservation group.
There are eight species of pangolin found across Asia and Africa. Three of those are listed as seriously endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature(IUCN): the Chinese pangolin, the Philippine pangolin and the Sunda pangolin. The remaining five are listed as either vulnerable or endangered.
Now, three species——the Chinese, Sunda and Indian pangolin——have been afforded the same protection in China as the Giant Panda and have been upgraded from Class II to the highest Class I protection. There's a punishment of 10 years of imprisonment for anyone caught hunting, killing or trading them.
The announcement was made in June. The Chinese government has also announced plans to recover the diminishing populations by improving field patrols (巡逻) and pushing habitat recovery efforts.
"It is great news that China has moved very quickly to close live wildlife markets," said WildAid CEO Peter Knights. "We hope this brings an end to legal sales of pangolin scales as soon as possible."
How to Travel a Long Distance With a Dog
Whether you are moving across the country or taking a road trip, traveling can be a stressful activity. If you want to travel a long distance with your dog, you need to figure out what you should prepare.
Make sure your dog has all of their vaccinations(疫苗). Take your dog to the vet(兽医) to make sure it is up to date on its vaccinations so that it is protected against some diseases.
Let your vet give your dog medicine for motion sickness(晕动症). If you've taken your dog on shorter car rides before, you may have noticed that it gets sick from the motion of the car. Ask your vet if it can help ease the dog's stomach while in motion.
Pack up the necessary things for your dog in a bag that is easy to get. Every dog is different and needs different items. Keep this bag in an easy-to-reach place so you can take items out as you need them on your trip.
Dogs have a lot of energy, especially if they are young. Take your dog on a walk or a hike to exercise and tire them out. This can help with some nervous energy they may have as well.

Valentine's Day in China
It is really difficult to know the exact time western Valentine's Day was introduced into China. However, western Valentine's Day is (wide) celebrated in urban areas where there are a lot of commercial(商业的) events, especially in big cities like Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong and Guangzhou. Valentine's Day is not so popular in small cities, (town) and the countryside.
So far, Chinese people (accept) the tradition of westerners on celebrating Valentine's Day, such as (exchange) gifts, having a romantic dinner, watching a movie in the evening or even making a marriage registration if Valentine's Day falls on a workday.
On this day, larger amounts of chocolate will be on sale in supermarkets, compared with the ordinary days, cinemas will be much (busy) and the price of flowers and restaurants and hotels can be a lot higher. Many restaurants will have special menus, especially those in Hong Kong, Beijing and Shanghai. If you want to have a smooth (celebrate) on Valentine's Day, remember (make) reservations(预定) as far in advance as you can.

Eliot Middleton is a restaurant owner and he is also a trained mechanic(机修工). When he isn't busy cooking in his restaurant, he is fixing broken cars in his yard. For seventeen years, Eliot worked with his father in his mechanic shop. Eliot started to help those in need in his community after the sudden death of his father. Most of the people Eliot helped were single mothers, the old and the unemployed who needed reliable(可靠的) transportation.
Repaired used cars were hard to find and expensive. This made life difficult for families who lived in the community where public transportation was hard to get. They had limited choices of where and how they could travel. When their cars, broke down, they often found themselves unable to afford a new one right away. They must depend on others for travel. They lacked the freedom to visit relatives, go to job interviews, attend medical appointments and sometimes even get to work.
"There is no public transportation or taxis," said Eliot, describing his South community. "They can't walk 40~60 miles to do great jobs, so they have to do small jobs that pay well below what they need to survive," he noted.
His goal was to help those who were seeking better opportunities but found that a lack of reliable transportation held them back. He said his community was filled with good and hard-working people often forgotten by society. He wondered how to find a way to combine his love of cars with helping others.
