On the morning of my Ph.D qualifying exam, I rolled out of the bed and got dressed. Next I did my make-up and put on my heels. However, she was confident of the music she released, and the fresh image she adopted.

That got me thinking: Could I do something similar before I stepped on stage? My naturally shy and quiet personality was not exactly ideal for public speaking, so I thought about the features and the image I wanted my professional self to possess. I wore professional clothing and highlighted my features—bravery, grace, and self-assurance—through make-up.

When I walked into the exam room, I was pleased to discover that I had new-found confidence. Sure, I was still nervous, but I had an unfamiliar sense of calm as soon as I began my talk. I was able to reply to questions without the trembling voice, and I took ownership of the work I presented. Thanks to Lady Gaga, I now have a strategy that unlocks the key to my confidence.

Pranks (恶作剧) are a popular way of making fun of others and getting a laugh. While some experts point out potential negatives, pranking can also decrease stress, raise a smile, and strengthen relationships.

Prank Aliens, a best-selling book, tells a story about a boy named Max who is searching for the greatest prank of all time. His author Matt Stanton once said that pranking in the home can build strong relationships between parents and kids.

"Some of the best relationship-building moments I have with my own kids are when I enter into their space," Stanton said. "An adult joining in their games can be surprising for kids and bring wonderful moments of joy. It's a great way to demonstrate to our kids that we can laugh at ourselves and still feel loved and safe," he added.

But playing tricks can come with unintended consequences, said psychiatrist Mark Cross. Pranks that are intended to harm or embarrass can anger the target and even ruin a relationship. However, Cross also added "Pranking can be good when the outcome is laughter for everyone, including the pranked person. It can be a great release of stress. When you laugh, you breathe deeper, which helps ease anxiety."

So why not try some pranks? Wrapping vegetables and shoes up as presents for kids on their birthdays always gets a great reaction. Putting plastic spiders in guests' drinks or placing a whoopee cushion on an unsuspecting person's chair is sure to cause a belly laugh. All these might just be good for you and everyone involved.

Our annual school Science Festival finished on Friday and 再一次带来了惊人的乐趣. This year's "space"theme was truly excellent and  showed off all of the students'creative talent.

On Wednesday morning, Dr. Li arrived to talk about  生命是否可以存在于其他行星上. Everyone loved his lecture about conditions on different planets.        He also      answered students'questions on outer space. 

In Thursday's Science Workshop,  students tried different experiments with great      interest. The most popular experiment was"planets in a bottle", in which students tried to create the conditions of different planets inside glass bottles. The experiment allowed students to get a taste of what it was like to live in outer space.

The Science Festival also attracted much interest from students.

I love doing housework. I always assist my parents in doing the dish after meals. I also water the flowers in the yard and tidying up my own bedroom whatever necessary. In my opinion, students can benefit a lot doing some housework. Firstly, doing housework was helpful for us to be a responsible person. Also, it gives our parents more time to do what they are like and it improves the family relationship. What's most, doing housework can be a form of mentally relaxation from study. My father often took me to his hospital when I was off my school. He showed me how his medical instruments was used. I felt so closely to him. However, after I went to high school, somehow I become distant from him. I was unwilling talk with him and often disobeyed his rule of not stay out with my friends too late. The disagreement was too sharp that neither he nor I knew what to settle it. One day, he talked with me or hoped to mend our relations. With the efforts made by all sides, we began to understand each other better.

A visually-challenged man from Beijing recently hiked (徒步) 40 days to Xi'an, as a first step  (journey) the Belt and Road route (路线) by foot.

On the 1,100-Kilometer journey, the man Cao Shengkang,  lost his eyesight at the age of eight in a car accident, crossed 40 cities and counties in three province. Inspired by the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation  (hold) in Beijing. Cao decided to cover the route by hiking as a tribute (致敬) to the ancient Silk Road.  friend of his, Wu Fan, volunteered to be his companion during the trip.

Cao and Wu also collectcd garbage along the road, in order to promote environmental  (protect). Cao believes this will make the hiking trip even more  (meaning). The two of them collected more than 1,000 plastic bottles along the 40-day journey.

In the last five years. Cao  (walk) through 34 countries in six continents, and in 2016, he reached the top of Kilimanjaro, Africa's  (high) mountain.

Now, Cao has started the second part of his dream to walk along the Belt and Road route. He flew 4, 700 kilometers  Xi'an to Kashgar on Spet 20,  (plan) to hike back to Xi'an in five months.
