①Parents love you most in the world. Here are a few ways to show your love to them.

③Dads and moms are busy every day. They need to office and family work. All these things make them tired. So try to keep your room clean. 

④Parents are tired after a day's work. Making dinner for them can give them a break. If you are too young to do it by yourself, ask someone to help do the cooking. 

⑤If you do something wrong, say sorry to them. If you do that, they will know your feeling. You can also do something else for them to show you are sorry, such as writing a letter or drawing a picture. 

I like walking near Mr. Groll's garden with Cho every morning. But I don't like it either. 

I like it because the flowers are very beautiful. I dislike it because of Mr. Groll. "Hello, Mr. Groll. " I say to him every morning. But he does not answer me. 

He likes flowers. I like flowers, too. Why can't we be friends? It's a mystery to me. 

Maybe he's afraid of me because I can't see anything. But he likes playing with my friend Jim. Jim is in a wheelchair (轮椅). 

Well, why doesn't he talk to me? Maybe he doesn't like me because I'm a girl. 

"Hello, Mai and Cho!" my friend Jane shouts. "Hi, Mr. Groll. "

I wait. But he answers, "Hello, Jane!"

Now I know something: Unfriendly Mr. Groll likes Jim and Jane. But not me and Cho…

Me and Cho! Cho! Maybe I know the answer!

I tie (系；绑) Cho to a tree and feel my way along the fence (围栏). 

"Mai! Be careful!" Mr. Groll shouts at me. 

I'm surprised. "My Cho makes you afraid. It isn't because I am blind or a girl that you don't like me. "

"Yes, I like you, Mai. And Cho, too. But a German shepherd dog is too big. "

"But friendship is bigger. Come with me. "

I hear a smile in Mr. Groll's words. "OK, " he says, "my friend. "

Friend, he calls me. 

"Yes!     ▲    !" They both smiled. 

Then, I take him to Cho. Slowly, Mr. Groll touches Cho's ears. Cho shakes her tail, showing her friendliness and kindness.

The tiger is ready to eat him. Just then a dog comes by. "What is happening?" asks the dog. The man tells the dog the whole story. 

"I don't understand, " says the dog. "You want to eat the man because he puts you in a cage?"

"Silly dog!" the tiger cries. "I am in the cage. This man lets me out. "

"Oh, I see, " the dog says. "When the man is in the cage, you let him out. "

"I am in the cage!" the tiger cries. "In this way!" With that, he jumps back into the cage. At once, the dog closes the door of the cage. 

"Oh, " the dog laughs. "At last I understand!"

The good man and the dog walks off. The tiger looks sad in the cage. If he waits long enough, maybe another good man will come by. 

With so many volunteer activities (志愿活动) to choose from, you need to ask yourself a few questions before choosing what to do. 

Do you love reading? Then you can think about helping at a library. Do you love science? Go to a science museum. Do you want to save the earth? Join in a park cleanup. 

Would you like to be a doctor or nurse in the future? You can work at a hospital to check it out. Are you thinking about being a vet? Helping at an animal center will help you a lot. 

You have 4 hours every other week? Then you can do any of activities above. If you don't have much time, try to join in a cleanup. It doesn't need much time. 

Most of the volunteer activities need you to be over 

If you're under 16, you can volunteer at a soup kitchen, food bank, or zoo. 

Most volunteer activities need communication (交流) with others. If you volunteer at an animal centre, you'll be working mostly with animals, and as a gardener, you'll work alone. 

Animals

①Tigers are strong animals and they  [kætʃ] many kinds of small animals for food.

Many people around the world have an animal friend. I am one of them. And my friend is a crow  Buddy. 

I am an  girl and I have a big family. I first meet them in 2020. I know little about crows at that time. But now I know them . 

Buddy comes to see me from time to time. She likes cat food, dog food and fruit. She usually comes . But today she comes with five other little . They are all her children. I am very happy to see them and I get them some food. They eat all the food. Now I am the friend of her family. 

The Smiths are my new neighbors (邻居). There are four people living in our  (房子). They are Mr. Smith, Mrs. Smith and their two  (可爱的) children, Mike and Peter. Mr. Smith is an English t. He has English classes every day. He tries his best to make every class interesting. And students can  (记住) his classes easily. He is a hardworking man aged  (四十). 

Ms. Smith works in a big h. She is a doctor and she is very b every day. So she always works late. Mike and Peter are in my school, and we are  (同班同学). Mike's favorite subject is maths, but she is not good at it. So I often h him with maths. Peter likes doing  (锻炼) and he plays football every day. His favorite sports star is Messi. 

Do you know Gulangyu Island? Where is it? It's in Xiamen, China. The island is clean  beautiful. It's like a garden on water. My family often go there at weekends. We can find a lot of  (hotel) if we want to stay there. We can also do many things on the island, like  (visit) some old buildings with a long history or walking on the beach. My  (father) job is at a history museum. So he often goes to  (that) old buildings there. We can take a walk in the afternoon too. It's nice  (see) green trees and the blue sea around. My uncle always  (play) volleyball in the beach. It's so cool! There are some shops on the island as well. The workers in the shops are so nice. I once meet  shop worker named Lingling. She can sell things to western people  English. What about the food there? The seafood on the island is quite delicious and  eat every time we go there.
