My grandfather shows a great love for space engineering. Every summer on 21 July, my grandfather takes out old books and pictures and sits 1 the table. It's always a day of memories for this old space worker. This is because on 21 July 1969, humans first stepped on the Moon.
My grandfather was just ten years old at the time, but he keeps 2 it throughout his life like it happened yesterday. On that day, 3 for the historic moment, his whole family sat in front of the TV earlier than they should. After Neil Armstrong and Buzz4 successfully to the Moon, all of them cheered excitedly.
"We have left our little planet and stepped on5space body. Mars is next," Grandfather 6 when he watched. But the following years were not satisfying for him 7humans didn't go to Mars.
He always tried to get my elder brothers interested in science. They were good at it, but they decided8they would start their own business. When I, his only granddaughter, turned out to be the only one who really loved science, you 9 imagine his surprise and joy!
Now I really love programmes about the space. I know the names of all the astronauts from10first man in space to the crew of the most recent spacecraft.
So every 21 July, Grandfather and I sit and go over11his old magazine pictures about the Moon landing, way back in 1969. They have encouraged me 12much that I've become very interested in space engineering. I hope, one day, I could go to university to study13.
Space engineering is one of14subjects in college. It requires a good knowledge of maths and physics. There are only 15 girls learning it. The ratio ( 比例 ) between male students and female students is 7:3. Hopefully, I can encourage some more young girls to get into it — just like Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin encouraged me.

One day when I was 12, my mother gave me an order: walk to the public library, and borrow at least one book for the summer. This was one more method for her to help solve my strange problem—inability to read.
In the library, I found my way into the Children's Room. I sat down on the floor and pulled a few books off the shelf. The cover of a book caught my eye. It was a picture of a beagle (小猎犬) which looked just like my dog. I had recently had a beagle, the first and only animal friend I ever had as a child. He was my secret sharer. But one morning, he was gone. He was given away to someone who had space and money to care for him. I never forgot my beagle. I ran my fingers over the picture of the dog on the cover. My eyes ran across the title, Amos, the Beagle with a Plan. Without opening the book, I borrowed it from the library for the summer.
Under a tree I sat. I started to read about Amos. I read very, very slowly with difficulty. Though pages were turned slowly, I got the main idea of the story. It's about a dog like mine who had been separated from his family. It seemed that Amos was my dog, and I was the little boy in the book. At the end of the story, he finally found his way back home. The final scene of reunion continued on and on, until my own lost dog and I were running together again in my mind.
My mother's call returned me to the real world. I suddenly realized something: I had read a whole book, and I loved reading that book.
Though I never told my mother about my mysterious experience that summer, she saw a slow but great improvement in my classroom performance during the next year. Years later, she was proud that her son had read thousands of books, was awarded a PhD in literature, and wrote his own books, articles, poetry and fiction.
When a new cell phone starts to be sold in stores, many people rush out to buy one. We all want the newest, latest thing. But what should we do with our old cell phones?
Mike Townsend works at Total Recall, a cell phone recycling company. "Don't throw your old phone away. Send it to us and we'll recycle it," he says. "If you throw it away, it goes with other rubbish to become landfill. In other words, it is put in a big hole in the ground, and it becomes a big problem."
Cell phones contain some harmful materials, like lead and cadmium ( 镉 ). They can harm the environment, wildlife, and even humans. If your phone goes to a landfill, these harmful materials can get out and get into the water under the ground. That's the water we need for drinking or the water that goes into rivers or the ocean. Millions of cell phones are thrown away every year. That results in a lot of landfill and produces a lot of harmful materials.
"At Total Recall, we take the old phones apart. Most of the materials in a cell phone can be recycled and used again," explains Mike. "We sell the parts and they are used to make new products. For example, phone batteries contain nickel ( 镍 ) and cadmium. The nickel is used to make steel and the cadmium can be used to make new batteries. The plastic cases of the phones are made into plastic fence posts." Mike says, "Recycling your old phone is easy. You can usually just take it into a cell phone shop and they'll send it to us."
So, before you throw that old cell phone away, use it one last time: search for a cell phone shop near you and give them your old phone.
A disabled young man drew the world's attention at the opening of World Cup 2022. His name is Ghanim Al-Muftah, and he is also known as Qatari miracle boy.
Ghanim was born on May 5, 2002 with a strange disease that causes patients to be born without lower half of their bodies. Doctors told his parents that he would only have 15 years to live and would have to spend all his life in a wheelchair. Many people advised his parents to give him up. However, his parents decided to support this little boy no matter what problems they might face in the uncertain future.
As Ghanim grew up, he went through a difficult time fighting against the painful disease and learning to move around with his hands. Being a "special" child, he was often laughed at by others, and his family found it hard to find schools for him. However, this family stayed positive all the time. "Life is beautiful and nothing is impossible," his mother often said to him.
As a result, Ghanim refused to let the disease stop him from living his life to the fullest. He challenged himself with all kinds of sports, because sports can help him
build up his body and teach him to be independent. With a lot of hard work, he managed to learn diving, board skating, rock climbing, football, etc. In 2019, the brave teenager completed one of his most thrilling adventures by climbing the 9,827-feet-tall Jebel Shams mountain, the highest one in the Gulf area. Many people were moved into tears while watching.
Ghanim has also offered to help other children in need. Supported by his family, he set up his own voluntary organization which gives wheelchairs to disabled children for free. "Helping people in need is a duty for everyone," he said as a 13-year-old boy when speaking to the Paralympic Committee (残奥组委会) in 2015. Later in the same year, he raised money to build a new sports centre for 5,000 homeless children.
Because of his positive attitude, he is seen as a role model and has more than 3.4 million social media followers. But Ghanim is not satisfied with what he has already achieved. Now he dreams of competing in the Paralympics one day and showing the world that people with disability can also achieve their dreams.
