There are about 5,000 different kinds of ladybugs (瓢虫) in the world. They come in many different colors. Their bright colors warn other animals or insects not to eat them. Ladybugs taste bad. A bird or a frog that eats a ladybug will remember the bright colors and it will not eat another ladybug with the same colors again. When ladybugs are in danger, they will give out a fluid (液体) that tastes terrible.

In many cultures, the ladybug is considered to be a symbol of good luck. Most ladybugs are kind to humans. They eat other insects which destroy crops. One ladybug can eat up to 5,000 insets in its lifetime.

Ladybugs have six short legs. They live in many different places, including green lands, forests, cities, the countryside and along rivers. Different ladybugs have different spots (点). Some of them don't have spots at all. The most common kind in North America is the 7-spotted ladybug. The 7-spotted ladybugs are the most active from spring to autumn. You can say that, I guess. But well, it's not like a real bath. When you go to a Russian banya (俄罗斯澡堂), it's very hot there, perhaps about 40 or 50 degrees. So after that people like to go to the snow to cool themselves down. It feels like you are born again. It's like heaven (天堂). But you don't really stay in the snow for too long. Just a few seconds for you to feel refreshed (清爽的). Just to cry on the street "Oh my god! It's so cold!" and then go.

By Alisa Topchiy, 23 years old

Do Russian students go to school when it's 50 degrees below zero?

My hometown is in Siberia (西伯利亚). It is one of the coldest places in the world. The winter is super cold. It can be 50 or 60 degrees below zero. So there is a rule for schools in winter: when the temperature is lower than 52 degrees below zero, schools are closed and people don't have to go to work. But if it is 51 degrees below zero, you still have to go to school and go to work.

By NIK GU, 20 years old

Do Russian planes keep flying in extreme(极端的) weather?

Recently there was a heavy storm in Shanghai, and all the other flights were canceled, but only Russian airplanes landed and then took off. So people thought that Russian pilots are not afraid of bad weather. Many Russian pilots used to be in the air force (空军). They then moved to civilian (民用的) flights. So they really know how to do their work. Russian pilots are very popular around the world. A lot of companies like to invite Russian pilots because they're skilled.

It was the last climb on his try to reach the highest summit(峰顶) on all seven continents. When Christopher Kulish finally got to Mount Everest's 29,035-foot peak, he joined a group known as the"Seven Summits Club". But the 62-year-old Colorado attorney passed away suddenly Monday after returning to the first camp below the mountain's summit. He's the second American to die in the past week after reaching Everest's highest point. At least 11 people have died on Mount Everest this year.

The deaths come among reports of overcrowding on the popular mountain. The Nepali government gave a total of 381 permits to climb Everest this year. For some climbers, that traffic has meant longer wait times — some told the Himalayan Times the wait has been over two hours between the last camp and the peak. Mountaineer Vanessa O'Brien said when there's a crowd, being a more experienced climber won't help you. "It doesn't matter if you're the best race car driver in the world. If you're stuck in traffic, you're stuck in traffic," she said in an interview.

Still, Christopher's family said he'd been mountain climbing for five decades. He arrived at the base camp nearly two months before his climb, so he could give himself time to adapt to the conditions. When he made his journey, his family said he was climbing with a small group in almost ideal conditions after some of the overcrowding had cleared.
