Look up at the sky, how many twinkling little stars can you see? In fact, human eyes can see 2,500 stars. But because of brighter lights, such as city lights, the night is not dark anymore. In a city, you see fewer than 20 stars. To help solve the problem, Qinghai made China's first regulation(法规)about protecting the dark sky. It says in some key(重要的)places, people should shine lights down onto the ground instead of(而不是)up into the sky.
Protecting the dark sky is important. Too much light can make it hard for scientists to study other planets and faraway galaxies(星系). Also, it harms(危害)animals like wild birds and sea turtles. Baby sea turtles are born on beaches at night. Then, they need to find the sea by the light of the ocean horizon (地平线). But, man-made light can lead them away from the ocean. Some of them may never find their home. Others may even die.
