Jane was always getting shouted at for not being ready for class. It happened so often that she could see her teacher's mouth open to shout at her as soon as she walked through the door. Her teacher became really angry instead of usual kindness. She didn't really blame (贵怪) her teacher that much, though. She knew she hated repeating (重复) herself, so why wouldn't her teacher?
Just once, she wanted to give her teacher a good impression (印象). She got her things out the night before, and then organized them carefully. She made sure her test paper was signed (签字) by her parents. She sharpened three pencils. She made sure she finished all the homework. Things looked good.
After a late night preparing, she fell asleep, but woke up late. Between breakfast, putting shoes on, and taking out the trash, she didn't take her backpack. In the rush for the bus in the morning, she forgot her backpack!
Jane felt sick. She was afraid to get to school. How could she be so irresponsible (不负责任)?When she was about to go into class, she heard her name being called over the school radio. She had to go to the office. Had her teacher already told the headmaster? Had they said that she had left her backpack at home? With heavy feet, she went into the office, only to find her mother waiting for her.
"You forgot your backpack. I know you tried hard to get ready, so I wanted to make sure you had your things." Her mother smiled.
Jane laughed and rushed off to class after hugging her mother. That day, the teacher didn't shout at her. Instead, when he got ready to shout, he closed his mouth and smiled. He was happy to see she was ready, and Jane was happy to do the right thing.
