Ways to Deal With Anxiety
Everyone has feelings of anxiety, which is a normal reaction to stress. Things like tests, speaking in public and competing in sports can make us feel stressed. But at other times, anxiety can be harmful, especially when it prevents you from being able to focus. Here are ways to help manage it.
Become a relaxation expert. We all think we know how to relax. But standing in front of the TV or computer isn't true relaxation. They may seem to relieve anxiety or stress, but it's a false state of relaxation that is only temporary. What the body really needs is a relaxation technique-like deep breathing, or yoga-that has a physical effect on the mind.
Want your mind and body to feel peaceful and strong enough to handle life's ups and downs? Get the right amount of sleep for your needs-not too much or too little. Eat well: Choose fruit, vegetables and whole grains for long-term energy. And exercise to send oxygen to every cell in the body so your brain and body can operate at their best.
Connect with others. Spend time with friends or family. If you feel worried or nervous about something, talking about it with someone who listens can help you feel more understood and better able to cope.
Think positively. A great way to keep your minds off the worry track is to focus your thoughts on things that are good, beautiful and positive.
A. Connect with nature.
B. Get enough sleep, nourishment, and exercise.
C. The same is true for alcohol, drugs or tobacco.
D. Allow yourself to dream, wish, and imagine the best that could happen.
E. When anxiety or worry goes extreme, it may be sign of an anxiety disorder.
F. Sometimes anxiety can be a good thing when it helps you deal with a tense situation.
G. Doing things with those you feel close to deepens our bonds, allowing us to feel supported and secure.
Every day, we face a series of opportunities o do the right thing. Sometimes we seize (抓住) those moments; other times, we don't. And what drives some people to take the moral high ground?
Jessie Sun interviewed 952 people about the motivations (动机) for moral behavior and the changes they wished to make in their lives order to become more morally good.
When we think about morals, we often think about making "personal sacrifices (牺牲)" for the greater good. In Sun's study, she found that nearly half of the participants said they were most encouraged to become more moral for themselves. And fewer participants said that they most wanted to benefit friends and people in general.
Moreover, many people believe that acting more morally—for example, being more thoughtful, more open-minded—would increase their own well-being. The more they believed that their moral change would have positive results for themselves, the more they reported being encouraged to make that change. That was the most surprising finding in the study.
Interestingly, participants generally expected possible harms to themselves and others if they were honest. You can imagine that some people regularly tell white lies to save other people's feelings, and they believed it would be hurtful if they were honest.
Researchers also asked people about the things they'd like to improve about themselves. If they're extremely shy, they usually want to become more comfortable in social situations. But if they aren't especially honest or thoughtful, they usually won't improve those aspects of their lives on purpose.
A. How can we become more moral?
B. So, why do we make these choices?
C. Being moral just isn't what most people consider first.
D. Being moral means different things to different people.
E. But people see some disadvantages of being moral, too.
F. In short, many people want to become more moral for their own benefits.
G. Sixteen percent said that they most wanted to become more moral for their family.
How to Make the World a Better Place
When you think about people who have made the world a better place, you probably think of famous scientists or great leaders. That is not all the truth. An act of kindness can bring a smile to a person's face even if only for a moment.
Give away your money.
For example, if you want to help hungry children, you can try to find an international organization that provides food for those in poor areas. Every cent you give away will mean a lot.
Help a stranger.
Your small actions can brighten the day of others. Hold the door for someone whose hands are full. Help the blind cross the street. The key is expecting nothing in return for your acts of kindness.
Care about those you know.
Show the people close to you how much you care about them. Tell them they mean a lot to you. Make a beautiful gift for a friend. Take your husband to his favourite fun place if he has had a hard week.
Be grateful to others.
Have you had good service in a restaurant? Thank the waiter. Do you have a very good neighbour who is always there when you need her? Tell her how much you appreciate her being in your life.
If a friend needs skills in a certain area, offer your advice. Perhaps she is struggling to set up a computer, and you know how to do that. Offer whatever ability you have, but always remember to be polite.
A. Share your knowledge.
B. Keep walking forward.
C. Small steps, not big ones.
D. Give your seat on the bus to an old man.
E. Ordinary people like you and me can also help a lot.
F. Tell your children how much they mean to you.
G. Choose charity (慈善机构) that has meaning for you.
In America, it's long been a tradition that tips are given to a person who provides good service. Of course, the tip is in addition to the bill. The general rule is to tip according to the service.
Restaurants

Travel
You should tip a taxi driver around 10% of your taxi fare, because the taxi driver usually helps you load and unload the bags. When you reach the airport, there are porters who can help with the bags. When you reach the hotel, you should tip $1 or $2 per bag to the doorman who helps you with your bags.
Barbershops and beauty salons
When you go for a haircut, beauty treatment, shampoo, shave or other similar services, you should generally tip at least 10-20% of the bill to the service provider.
No tipping
There is no tipping required at the gas station.
Unless someone helps you load bags in your car, there is no tipping required at the grocery store.
