My mum's birthday is coming. Her birthday is1 April 10. I was thinking of buying a gift for my mum. But my best friend Sandy advised me to make2 a birthday card. I thought that was an excellent idea. Then I went to Sandy's home to make the card3 I wanted to keep it secret. I planned to make the card with some roses on it. Sandy helped me with the drawing. We had fun4 together. It took me two hours to finish. Lots of things went wrong during that time. I made some mistakes when I5 the sentence "Happy Birthday, Mum". I kept spelling the words wrong a few times. I was too6 .
Finally, I colored the roses red, blue and pink. I also put a picture of colorful balloons and stuck it on the cover. When the card7 , I really felt a strong sense of satisfaction. But we found that there was paint on everything: the table, Sandy's books, Sandy's hands and faces, my clothes, my hands and face! We laughed8 when we saw each other's face. This is9 card I made for my mum. 10 meaningful it is! I hope she will like it.
It was about two o'clock in one early morning in 1999. I was sleeping when the earthquake started. At first, it was not so strong. Then I heard a 1 noise like thunder. The earth started to shake. People screamed(尖叫)2 . Outside, people were running in all 3 while pieces of glass and bricks(砖) were falling down. Then the walls began to come down too! Finally, the noise and shaking ended. It was dark and silent around me. I could not see anything at all, and I did not know4 anyone else was near me. I felt nervous and my heart was 5 fast. A moment of fear6 my mind. But I told myself to7 down since I was still alive.
I8 for help loudly, but no one came. I started to walk through the dark. Luckily, there was just enough space for me to move. Hours later, as I was trying to find my way out, I 9 heard some noise above me. I screamed, "help! Please help! I'm here!" Then people quickly moved away the bricks. At last, I saw the bright daylight. I felt so lucky that I was 10 . From this experience, I learn that no matter what difficulties we meet, try not to be nervous and find a solution.

Cardiac arrest(心脏骤停) happens when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops pumping blood. 90% of the people who have a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital die—often within minutes. That is because they do not receive treatment quickly enough to survive. Cardiac arrest is a common cause of death. It causes about 300, 000 to 450, 000 deaths in the United States each year.
If cardiac arrest happens, rapid treatment with a medical device called automated external defibrillator (AED) can be lifesaving. Many AEDs can be easily seen in public places, including offices, schools, shopping malls, grocery stores, and airports. An AED system includes an AED and its necessary accessories(配件), such as a battery and pad electrodes(片状电极). The AED gives verbal instructions to users, which means it gives voice instructions to tell users how to use it.
This is how an AED works. First, the user turns on the AED and follows the recorded voice instructions. Second, the user puts two electrodes on the chest of the person in cardiac arrest. Third, the electrodes send information about the person's heart rhythm(心律) to the AED, and then it decides whether an electric shock(电击) is needed. Fourth, if a shock is needed, the AED tells the user when to press a button to give a shock. In some AEDs, the user doesn't need to press any button. The AEDs will give a shock themself.

"I remember an English teacher—she always had colorful clothes: red, green, even orange. "
"Our chemistry teacher. He was so strict. We were afraid of him. I don't think he liked us. "
"One year we had a really good Chinese language teacher. He was very patient and told very funny stories. He was popular with all the class. We liked his class. We are his friends. "
"The P. E. teacher always said I was stupid. I thought teachers should give us encouragement. I am not interested in sports because of him. "
"I had one history teacher who always wore clothes of the same color. In three years, I never saw him change. "
"I remember two teachers well. One was my music teacher who was very active, and usually had a loud voice. The other was my computer teacher, who was very serious, but he really helped me when I had problems at any time. "
