It's not clear at what age kids begin to dream. Almost every child has a frightening(令人害怕的,吓人的)dream and fear of the dark is common.
Nightmares(噩梦) like most dreams occur during the stage of sleep when the brain is very active and sorting through experiences and new information for learning and memory. This part of sleep is known as the rapid eye movement or REM stage.
No one knows exactly what causes nightmares. Dreams and nightmares seem to be one way kids process thoughts and feelings about situations they face, and work through worries and concerns.
Most times nightmares occur for no apparent reason. Other times they happen when a child is experiencing stressor change. Events or situations that might feel unsettling such as moving, attending a new school, or family tensions might also be reflected in unsettling dreams.
Sometimes nightmares occur as part of a child's reaction to a natural disaster, accident, or injury. For some kids, especially those with a good imagination, reading scary books or watching scary movies or TV shows just before bedtime can inspire nightmares.
When kids awaken from a nightmare, its images are still fresh and can seem real. So it's natural for them to feel afraid and upset and to call out to a parent for comfort. By about preschool age, kids begin to understand that a nightmare is only a dream and that what's happening isn't real and can't hurt them. But knowing that doesn't prevent them from feeling scared. Even older kids feel frightened when they awaken from a nightmare and may need your reassurance and comfort.
Parents can't prevent nightmares, but can help kids get a goodnight's sleep and that encourages sweet dreams.
A recent survey found children would rather be online influencers than astronauts. It made headlines and led to plenty of complaints about "kids these days". Is influencing a promising career path? The lifestyles we see advertised on social media are enticing, but under the shining appearance lie uncertain income, pay inequality, disability and mental health issues.
Successful influencers will be the first to claim that anyone can make it in the industry. However, social media economy experts uncovered a huge income gap between successful influencers and everyone else. For most people trying to become an influencer, their passion projects of content creation often become free work for brands.
Most influencers are self-employed, often experiencing inconsistent income and a lack of protection that comes with long-term employment. The risks of self-employment are increased in the influencer industry by an absence of industry standards and little pay transparency(透明度). Influencers are often forced to assess their own value and determine fees for their work. As a result, content creators often undervalue their own creative labor, and many end up working for free.
Influencers are also often at the mercy of algorithms (运算法则) — the behind the scenes computer programs that determine which posts are shown, in which order, to users. Platforms share little detail about their algorithms, yet they finally determine who and what gains visibility and influence on social media, the threat of invisibility is a constant source of insecurity for influencers, who are under constant pressure to feed platforms with content. If they don't, they may be "punished" by the algorithm-having posts hidden or displayed lower down on search results.
Constant online presence leads to one of the most common issues in the influencer industry: mental health concerns. Influencers can connect to their platform workspaces and audience at any time of day or night, which can lead to them overworking. Coupled with the fear of online criticism, it contributes to mental and physical health issues.
Although becoming an influencer may look appealing to more and more people, the industry's dark underside needs to be made visible and improved through enhanced employment regulation and industry-led cultural change.
Eco-Friendly Changes You Can Make to Your Home
As part of the move to save the environment and money, many people have made lots of changes to their homes over the past few years, and the trend (趋势) is set to continue in the years ahead.
Switch out your light bulbs (灯泡)
You might not think that this could make a big difference. With LED light bulbs being up to75% more efficient than standard light bulbs, it could save about. $7.75 per month to light your home if you made the switch to LED.
Turn to solar energy (太阳能)
Rising energy costs are forcing people to look for new methods of powering their homes.
It's also a clean, renewable energy source, meaning not only is it cheaper for you, but environmentally friendly to power your home.
Wind power is more stable than solar, and it can be used to produce power. Like solar options (选择;选项) , using wind means that it won't matter as you'll have a continuous power source of your own.
Seal (密封) gaps around doors and windows
One very low-cost option to help your home be more efficient is to stop the air from leaving your home. If you have gaps around doors and windows, the air from your air conditioning system will be heading literally straight outside.
A. Is wind power an option? B. The sun is one resource that isn't going away. C. Is it a challenge to take advantage of wind power? D. So make the most of your air conditioning system. E. We've listed a few options to make your home more eco-friendly. F. This will increase your energy bill as your system will work harder. G. However, lighting accounts for around 9%of a typical home's energy use. |
Father's Day to me is just as special as Mother's Day. Each parent has something to1 and sometimes one parent ends up playing both2 and I happen to be one of those parents.
I completely3 my son by myself, though I wanted him to have a4 figure in his life. I can remember how5 it was to answer some of the questions of a man, which I wished his dad could have6 .Last year I had to have an operation. I have always been7 ,so it hurt my pride that I had to rely on others for help. I can remember my son saying, "Mom, you took care of me for 21 years, now it's my8 to look after you." It9 me to hear him say that; he had10 everything I had done for him.
Children don't forget things when they are growing up,11 those who have raised them. My father played an important role in my life and when I look back on my12 ,he was my total inspiration (灵感),He taught me a lot about life and helped me keep a(n) positive attitude even when I got into difficulties. He13 me to never give up on my dreams14 they could be my own reality one day. He has taught me that laughter, kindness and love are more valuable than gold.
Happy Father's Day to those who are there to support and love their children. Happy Father's Day to all the mothers out there who have to play a father's role and to all the fathers who have to play a(n)mother's role. Raising children has never been15 but it takes a special parent to make a difference in a child's life.
Falling the 15th day of the 8th lunar month, the traditional Chinese Mid-Autumn festival is all about the full moon and family reunion it represents. When people sit together at night and enjoy the glorious moon, an ancient poem, "Prelude to Water Melody"(水调歌头), is often read for this occasion.
Critics say it's (probable) the best poem on the Mid-Autumn. After it (write), all the other poems on the harvest moon (丰收之月) could be well-forgotten. So why is this poem so special?
The story (date) back to the Mid-Autumn Festival of the year 1076. Su Shi, a great writer of the Song Dynasty (960—1279), could not sleep that night, missing his geographically separated dear brother Su Zhe. (look) at the moon and thinking of his brother, as well as the ups and downs (沉浮)of his own life, Su Shi drank some wine and composed a poem, or more specifically a "ci", (call) "Prelude to Water Melody."
For the first two lines, the writer compares the life of a man with the changing face of the moon. A full moon represents perfection and unity, a gloomy (黑暗的) night may remind people of their bad luck.
However, he soon realizes that no one has an easy ride(一帆风顺), just like the moon may not always be bright. The imperfections, or the unsatisfactory things have been going on since the beginning of time. That's why poet says so.
So Su Shi gives his optimistic answer: change your attitude and stay positive. The poet hopes people can avoid indulging in(沉湎于) the sorrow of life and instead appreciate the fact that no matter where they are, as long as the ones they love and miss are (health) and happy, they all can admire the same moon high in the sky and share this eternal(永恒的) (beautiful).
