Location
St Helena is one of the remotest islands on Earth. The subtropical (亚热带的) British Overseas Territory sits in the middle of the South Atlantic Ocean, 1, 200 miles from the west coast of Africa and 1, 800 miles from the east coast of South America.
Size Population
St Helena is only 16 km long and 9 km wide and the population is 5, 000. This is 1/3 the size of the Isle of Wight, and the same size as Disney World Orlando. This is also the same size as San Francisco-yet the island has just 0.5% of San Francisco's population. With an extremely low-crime community, you can freely explore the island's natural and built attractions in peace.
Climate
As a subtropical island, St Helena's temperature is 15 -28℃ all year round. While the four seasons are not recognized on St Helena, the "cooler months" are generally June to September and the "hotter months" are December to March. St Helena is free from extreme weather events, with even thunderstorms only occurring perhaps once a decade.
Accessibility
Until 2017, St Helena did not have an airport and was only accessible by sea. Reaching the island meant a five-day ship voyage from Cape Town, South Africa. However, since October 2017, the island's first and only airport has enabled passengers to reach the island in just a six-hour flight.
A Texas woman says that she took two kittens (小猫) into her home, only to discover that they were not housecats.
Jane Dinscore, her sister and her niece were bitten on the hands while trying to feed them.
"I think they started doing a little bit more research and thinking, These don't look like standard housecats. Maybe we should call somebody. Thankfully, they did. San Antonio Animal Care Services (ACS) spokeswoman Lisa Norwood told local TV station KENS 5 on Monday.
But Jane Dinscore has changed her story since the news broke on Monday. Originally, she told the authorities she found the kittens in an alleyway (小巷) in San Antonio. Now she says she received the kittens from her brother, James Dinscore, in rural Atascosa County. However, she maintains that she believed the kittens were pet cats. She says she took the kittens home and called ACS after they began biting her and her relatives. She says she lied at first about their origin in the interest of her brother.
ACS and Texas State Parks and Wildlife are working together to determine if the situation deserves any criminal charges for disturbing wildlife, according to USA Today.
The animals are now under the care of Wildlife Rescue Rehabilitation in San Antonio. The group hopes to eventually release the bobcats in a safe area.
In general, wild animals should be left in the wild. If you suspect a problem with a wild animal or believe you have found one that's sick, injured or abandoned, call a local wildlife center or animal control organization. And if you believe an animal, you've found is a lost pet, you may take it to an animal shelter or a rescue group.
After working an extra shift, Dr. Jessica Gold returned home feeling burned out and submitted herself to the urge to watch TV and sleep most of the day. As Generation Z would say, she was "bed rotting". The phrase describes staying in bed all day, just like "rotting"(腐烂) there, according to Gold, a professor at Washington University. It is similar to having a lazy day, but it is more of an immobile term with less activity. She said, "It is OK as long as you understand why you are doing it and turn to other activities as well.
"Lying in bed for more than a day is concerning and could lead to different mental health issues, "Gold added, "The urge to rot in bed all day, especially if it happens more seriously, is likely about something more than just catching up on sleep or needing a day to do nothing, but avoiding the feelings, stress or pain of being awake. This sort of behavior has been linked to symptoms (症状) of depression and anxiety. "
Bed rotting could be affecting more than just your mental health — it could also have a negative impact on your sleep. "Bed rotting is exactly the opposite of what we want people to do, " said Baron, associate professor of family and preventive medicine. "As a general guideline, if you are not asleep within 30 minutes during the night, you should get out of bed, said she.
Bed rotting after a long day is normal, but if it is affecting your work, social life or other important activities, then you should turn to professionals, Gold suggested, because they can help you get to the root cause and get you to learn to do something that you may think of as hobbies.
Recharging activities can energize us and better prepare us for the unavoidable stress we face daily. "Some options include hanging out with a friend, seeing a film or exercising, said Rego, a psychologist from New York, "If you don't want to leave the house, try activities like reading a book or journaling instead of just lying down.
Want to know what is coming soon to a cinema near you? Probably not a 1.5-hour-long movie, as in the old days. On October 20th comes Killers of the Flower Moon. At nearly three and a half hours, its length is nearly double that of the average film last year. Even movie fans struggle to concentrate for that long and some viewers even nod off. Afterwards there is a mad dash for the toilets. When does watching a film become such a slog?
The Economist analyzed over 100, 000 feature films released internationally since the 1930s, the start of Hollywood's golden age, using data from IMDb, a movie database. The average length of productions rose by around 24%, from one hour and 21 minutes in the 1930s to one hour and 47 minutes in 2022. For the ten most-popular titles, the average length grew to around two and a half hours in 2022, nearly 50% higher than in the 1930s.
One driver of this trend is that studios want to squeeze the most out of their costly intellectual property (知识产权), but they are competing with streaming platforms for eyeballs. The hope is that a spectacular, drawn-out "event" movie will draw audiences away from the small screen and into cinemas. This approach has often paid off: Avengers: Endgame Marvel's three-hour superhero masterpieces, was the highest-grossing (票房最高的) film in 2019. Last year long movies series made up most of the highest-grossing films in America.
Another explanation for longer films has to do with directors' growing influence. Who would dare tell the likes of Mr. Nolan to cut out his masterpieces? Moreover, streaming platforms, which do not have to worry as much about the length because viewers can pause whenever they like, may attract big names by promising them sufficient fund and creative freedom. Netflix funded and released three-hour The Irishman in 2019, a film that would have benefited from a decisive editor, Irish or otherwise.

An awkward experience
I was walking along the road to school one day and I met my friend Raine. He suggested that we skip school and go to the movies. I refused because my dad was very strict and I knew he would be mad. Raine offered various reasons but I still refused. Finally, he said there was a Will Smith movie at the local cinema and that I couldn't afford to miss it. Finally curiosity got the better of me and I agreed to go.
So we set off to the movies together, bought our tickets, popcorn and drinks and settled down comfortably. The movie was due to start in fifteen minutes and the lights were still on. We watched people coming in groups, families and there were couples too. Some of them looked like school students cutting classes like us. As I turned around, I suddenly caught sight of my uncle Andy and aunt Jane walking in. I sank into my seat quickly to avoid being spotted. I signaled to Raine that there was someone I didn't want to see. But Raine made it more obvious by turning around and asking "Who? And where?" loudly, which made me sit even lower in my seat.
To make things worse, they came and sat just in the row behind us. I couldn't help but overhear(偷听) their conversation. They were discussing how much I would have loved to come to this movie, knowing my admiration for Will Smith. They were even commenting about the students cutting classes. They spoke in a low voice, but their words were loud enough for me to catch. They discussed the bad influence of cutting classes and the importance of studying hard at school. My heart sank with these words. It was as if they were unknowingly lecturing me, reminding me why I shouldn't have given in to Raine's suggestion.
