Dear Mom and Dad
The time has come: I'm graduating and I thank you for all your help for these 15 years. I still remember when you1 say, "You can be whatever you want." I'm so glad you are my parents, 2 when I hear kids say they don't get on well with theirs. I'm glad that you support me when I decide3 anything. You always try to help, and that's important to me.
Dad, I remember when you first took me fishing. I loved going even4 I never caught anything. I also remember when you would get angry with me. I5 you were only trying to show me the right way. When I would cry, you would always be there to try to6 . That's what I call a good, loving and caring Dad. Sometimes you and Mom don't agree7 me, but you are there by my side in anything8 I do, and that's why I love you so much.
Mom, I enjoy going out with you and having9 happy time every Friday night, and I hope that never changes. I love telling you everything. The best part about you is that you listen. I'm glad we do a lot together. You love to have fun, and Dad does, too. You always give me your 10 and I listen.
Thank you for bringing me up.
Love always,
Jack

Waving (向……挥手)her 5-year-old daughter goodbye, Wang Yaping, together with Zhai Zhigang and Ye Guangfu, went into space aboard the Shenzhou ⅩⅢ on Oct 16.
The 41-year-old Wang became the first female astronaut to enter Tiangong space station. During their six-month stay. Wang, alongside Zhai and Ye, will do experiments and set up robotic arms. Wang will also do the first spacewalk by a Chinese woman, reported Xinhua. Wang's space dream started in 2003, when China sent its first astronaut Yang Liwei into space. She told herself, "China now has a male astronaut. When will there be a female one?" At that time, Wang was a pilot in the Chinese army.
After having safe flights for 1,600 hours over nine years, Wang was a strong candidate to become an astronaut in 2010.She pushed herself hard, getting the same training as men, including the pull-ups(引体向上) and barbells(杠铃). "The space environment won't change because you are a woman," she told Xinhua.
The hardest part is the high-G training. Sitting in a spinning(旋转的) machine, Wang would become blind for a while because her brain was short of blood. "There's a red button(按钮)," said Wang. "If you can't bear it, you can press it to stop." But Wang never used it. "There is no such red button in my heart."
That strong spirit finally led to realizing her dream in 2013.She joined the team for the Shenzhou X mission(任务).
Wang said that as astronauts, women have their own advantages. "Women tend(倾向于) to be more patient and can better deal with loneliness. Women's hearts are also easier to adapt to the weightless (失重的) environment, making them more suitable for long-term missions."
Retired NASA astronaut Catherine Coleman sent a greeting to Wang before the Shenzhou ⅩⅢ trip. Coleman said, "When you look out the window and see the stars and the earth, billions of women will be looking out that window with you." Wang caries the spirit of every young woman who dreams of something big.
a. more patience
b. less weight
c. more problem-solving skills
d. better ability to deal with loneliness
I think our school days are the best and happiest days in our life. We should learn not to waste this wonderful period of time.
Be positive(积极的). Don't say things are difficult or boring. We should be interested in the school life and school subjects. We should join lots of activities.
Study hard right now. Some students always say that they will study hard tomorrow. Actually, if we fall behind, it's very difficult for us to catch up. Tomorrow never comes. There is no time like the present. What's more, arrange (安排) our time reasonably. If we don't study hard now, we will regret wasting our best time in the future.
Ask for help. Sometimes although you listen to the teachers carefully, you still can't get good grades. This may make you hate studying. If you need help, the most important thing you should know is that there's nothing embarrassing about it. And everyone needs other people's help. The first person you should turn to is your teacher. You can also get some help from your classmates.
Keep fit. We need to have a good breakfast so that we won't be hungry in class. In order to keep our body fit, we should also do some sports. We'd better make sure to do outdoor exercise for an hour every day.
Don't be too disappointed if something goes wrong. Everyone fails in some tests, loses some matches or has some bad days. We should try not to let small things affect our mood.
A. Don't waste time worrying about the past. B. No one is expected to understand everything. C. Never put off till tomorrow what maybe done today. D. It will make us look friendly if we walk around the school with a smile. E. We need to go to bed early and get enough sleep, or we'll feel sleepy in class. |
A: Hello, Jill. You look unhappy. ?

B: I want to buy an English exercise book. ?
A: Sure. There's a bookstore on Long Street.
B: ?
A: Yes. Go along Main Street and then turn right on Long Street. You will see the bookstore on the other side of the street.
B: ?
A: It takes about 10 minutes to get there on foot.
B: Thanks a lot.
A: You're welcome.

Being Talented is Not Enough
There is a story in the book History as a Mirror(《资治通鉴》) by Chinese historian Sima Guang.
Zhi Xuanzi was the head of Zhi, a big family of Jin the late Spring and Autumn Period (770-476 BC). He wanted a man named Zhi Yao the head of the family.
However. man in the family, named Zhi Guo, was against the idea. Zhi Guo said Zhi Yao was good at many things. For example, he was good at riding and shooting. He was decisive and talkative. Zhi Guo pointed out that he made a big moral weakness (道德上的缺点)—he was unkind.
Still. Zhi Xuanzi Zhi Yao became the head of the family. He quickly made the Zhi family the strongest in Jin. However, because of his aggressive (咄咄逼人的) style, three other families worked together to fight against the Zhi family. Finally, the Zhi family .
Sima Guang used this story to talk about how important virtue (德行) is. Talent is not enough. Excellent people have not only talent, but also virtue.
If a person has virtue but no talent, he or she might work inefficiently(低效的). If a person has talent but no virtue, he or she might go in the wrong . Having talent and virtue has been a common pursuit (追求) for people in China. Those have talent and virtue were called xiancai (贤才) in ancient times. If you ask which one is between the two, it must be virtue. Only if a person has virtue can he or she get on the right way.

Where I'm from, we're pretty relaxed about time. We don't like to rush around, so we don't mind if people are a little late sometimes. If you tell a friend you're going to their house for dinner, it's OK if you arrive a bit late. We like to enjoy our time slowly. We value the time we spend with our family and friends in our everyday lives. We often just drop by our friends' homes if we have time. We don't usually have to make plans to meet our friends. When we see each other, it's polite for boys to shake hands and for girls to kiss each other on the side of the face. We often just walk around the town center, seeing as many of our friends as we can!
Marc LeBlanc Lausanne, Switzerland
In Switzerland, it's very important to be on time. We're the capital of clocks and watches, after all! If someone invites you to meet him or her at noon, then you're expected to be there at noon. If you're even 15 minutes late, your friend may get mad. So I make an effort to be on time when I meet my friends. I always leave the house early to avoid heavy traffic. I don't mind because I think it's impolite to keep others waiting. Also, we never visit a friend's house without calling first. We almost always make plans to see friends. We usually plan to do something interesting, or go somewhere together.
The Winter Olympics.
It's not long before you can watch athletes dancing on ice or racing against the clock in speed skating. The sports event will run from Feb.4 to 20.
Besides Beijing's promises of hosting a "fantastic, extraordinary(非凡的) and excellent" Winter Games, "safe" is also a keyword. Beijing 2022 made public the principles(原则) that will help the Games go safe and successful. The principles include a vaccination policy (疫苗政策). It says that participants (参与者) of the Games who are not fully vaccinated will have a 21-day quarantine (隔离) as soon as they arrive in Beijing.
First national parks.
China is a large country with different landscapes(风景地貌). Different kinds of animals and plants live here. The country is moving fast to protect them.
Now China has named its first five national parks. The national parks not only give safe homes to plants and animals, but also benefit(有益于)people. China combines(结合)the buildings of national parks with local development. More and more people have taken part in the protection work. In this way, they have turned from consumers to protectors. In the future, national parks are expected to be natural classrooms for everyone.
The Long March.
Last year marks the 85th anniversary (周年纪念)of the victory of a world-famous march—the red Army's Long March of 25,000 li(12,500 kilometers).
Along the way. soldiers went through unimaginable difficulties. They had to fight and survive in a difficult environment. President Xi Jinping has called it a "miracle(奇迹)". He said that we should carry on "the Long March spirit": working hard, not being afraid to sacrifice (牺牲), and believing in communism(共产主义) and the final victory of China's revolution (革命).

Each of us has dreams and goals for our future. What makes us study and make progress each day is closely connected with our personal dream and goal.
But why do you have dreams and goals, you still end up with nothing? What separates successful people from the dreamers is their persistent(锲而不舍) action. When you learn your lessons in school, you must work hard and not give up. You will often find some of your lessons very hard. Try and keep trying, and you'll be sure to successfully deal with any difficulty you meet with. If we have a hard lesson today, let us try our best to learn it well and then we shall be prepared for a harder one tomorrow.
This is the famous formula (公式) for success:
Dream>Believe>Achieve
Most people have what they want (Dream) and think they can realize their dreams (Believe). And then they do nothing. They just imagine their dreams can come true. When they get tired of waiting and lose a lot, they get bored. They say angrily how terrible their life is.
I personally believe that if you really want to achieve your dreams and goals in life, you have to add one thing to your success formula:
Dream>Believe>Act>Achieve
For me, act is the most important thing for success and that's to Take Persistent Action (Act), If you say. "I can't do it" and give up. you can never do anything valuable. However, "I'll try" creates wonders. Let's remember that there will be obstacles (障碍) in our life, We must face them bravely at first. To solve them is also important. Success is not something that falls down from the sky. Most successful people make their dreams come true because of their persistent action.
Please remember: Action is the bridge that connects our dreams and goals to reality.

Every school has rules for students to follow. However, some students may see the rules as a way which teachers control them. Sometimes, they're unhappy and even feel angry. They think they should be allowed to choose their own clothes, because they want to look nice. And they are supposed to have part-time jobs, because they can learn a lot from working.
In fact, following school rules can be very important ...

It's really a wonderful news that "double reduction policy" has been carried out. However, as a student, we have to deal with the new challenges of making the best of our time.
