When all the students finished singing, he declared, "You are going to be a great choirl!" Through many competitions, our choir proved not just good, but among the best in Texas.

Mr. Winters encouraged us to take part in many competitions and to be proud of our musical talents. He allowed us to be human and make mistakes. "If you are going to make a mistake, make it a good one," he once said. With his encouragement, I found my home and my passion: music.

He was like a father to us in so many ways. With his encouragement, I gained the confidence to follow my careers, as a passionate singer and songwriter in the studio. When we had a gathering for Mr. Winters, "his" kids came from around the world to honor him. We told him what an impact he had had on each of us. Mr. Winters, you taught us how to be champions

Twenty years ago, the idea of sharing our lives so openly with the world was unheard of However, for young people today it is considered completely normal to share pictures of their lives and interact(互动) online every day. Fans of social media point out that the world has never been so connected as it has allowed people to make friends, learn about the world and celebrate life.

However, many people have concerns about the effects of this new way of living, particularly around the amount and type of information that is shared so openly. Recently researchers have found that too much time on social media may have some negative effects. They measured people's attitudes and feelings before and after watching social media sites. They found that the mere time people spent on social media, the more unhappy they became.

There are a number of reasons for this. When watching social media, people often see photographs and stories showing beautiful holidays, fun parties and fashionable clothes. People seldom post negative stories or bad pictures, so it can be misleading. For those looking at these pictures and comparing them to their own lives, they can end up feeling depressed. They might think their lives are worse in comparison. Even for those people who post positive stories and pictures, they too can feel stressed and worried. The number of "likes" and comments on their posts can make them anxious about their popularity. Of course, there is also the problem of "cyber bullying"(网络欺凌) where people become victims of bullying online when others make negative or cruel comments about them.

The reality is that social media is a part of modern life and it is not going to go away. This research shows us that it is important to find a balance between our online and offline lives. We don't have to disconnect from the Internet to live a happy life, but we should realize that the pictures we see and stories we read are only part of a bigger picture. If we can do that, we can protect ourselves and enjoy our lives.

    1. (1) What effect does social media have according to the recent research?
A . It enables people to make more friends on the Internet. B . It increases unhappiness for people using it too much. C . It makes people have much more wonderful lives. D . It helps people to have a better knowledge of the world
    2. (2) Why are people worried when they post positive stories?
A . They fear others mislead their posts. B . They think others have happier lives. C . They fear they may be cyber bullied by others. D . They fear others have no interest in the stories.
    3. (3) How does the author develop paragraph 3?
A . By giving causes. B . By listing figures. C . By making comparison. D . By describing process.
    4. (4) What is the author's purpose in writing the passage?
A . Persuading people to disconnect from the Internet. B . Introducing the convenience social media creates. C . Describing the threats caused by social media. D . Telling us to balance online and offline lives.

Getting lost is dangerous for older people who suffer from dementia(痴呆症). Naturally, it worries their caregivers too.

One survey in 2021 of 576 family caregivers of people with dementia showed similar popularity in getting lost. According to the survey, only 12% of family caregivers would seek help from friends and neighbors, while nowadays, thanks to technological development, family caregivers increasingly use the reliable GPS function on mobile phones or tracking devices to search for the lost people with dementia.

The tracking device "iBeacon" the researchers developed has fast response and long-distance tracking up to 50m and is battery-saving with 1-year battery life. It is designed in different forms so that it can be put into a wallet or attached to a walking stick to lower the resistance of people with dementia to carry the device.

When a person with dementia is lost, the caregiver could activate(激活) the missing alarm on the app installed (安装) on his or her mobile phone. And then the citizens who have installed the tracking app on their mobile phones will be informed to turn on their Bluetooth for iBeacon searching and GPS for location sharing. When these citizens' mobile phones find the iBeacon, their location would be sent to the cloud server and then be sent to the caregiver to help with the search.

Up to now, over 3, 000 people have obtained the iBeacon in this project and close to 40, 000 citizens have downloaded the app to help with the search. The caregivers participating in the project have welcomed the technology and the tracking device. 85% of caregivers observed that their relatives with dement a were willing to carry the iBeacon; 78%were satisfied with the durability (耐用性) of the iBeacon, and 86% thought that the designated mobile app was easy to use.

Overall, this program mc has promoted dementia friendliness and the usage of technology by mobilizing the public to aid in searching for people with dementia who get lost in the community.

    3. (3) What's the function of the figures in Paragraph 5?

Obviously, there weren't any cartoon characters on the paper, so I was upset and disappointed. At that time, I didn't know my mother was facing some financial(财政的) problems and was trying hard to support the family.

That night, my mother, a lover of schedules, sent me to the bed at the usual time of 9:30. But then instead of going to bed as she normally did, she remained in the living room. When I didn't hear the voice of a news host through the TV, I wondered what exactly kept my mother up past her bedtime. Walking up to her I found she bent beneath our single lamp, sketching(画素描). When I asked what she was drawing, my mother just covered the page with her arms and ordered me to return to my bed. A week ago, I had begged her for a new box of crayons and she refused. Now I wanted beautiful stationery and she refused again. That night, I lay in bed looking at the moon, believing I was the unluckiest girl in the world.

The next morning, my mother's eyes were black-ringed, and she looked so tired while preparing the breakfast of oatmeal(燕麦糊) in the kitchen. "Drink it before school," she said, pointing at the food.
