One day I took a taxi and we set off for the airport. The driver was driving on his driveway when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us.

My taxi driver stopped his car, and missed that car by just inches! The driver of that car pointed at us with his finger and started shouting at us! But my taxi driver just smiled at him. So I asked, "Why did you just do that? This man almost broke your car!"

My taxi driver taught me what I now call "The Law of the Rubbish Truck". He explained that many people are like rubbish trucks. They run around full of rubbish. As their rubbish piles up, they need a place to put it down. So they may get angry, upset, or even shout at you.

Just smile, wish them well and move on. Don't take their rubbish and throw it to other people at work, at home or on the streets.

Successful people do not let rubbish trucks take over their day. Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets (遗憾), so love the people who treat you right and give your wishes to the ones who don't. Life is 10% what you make it and 90% how you take it!

    1. (1) What happened when the taxi driver was driving on his driveway?
A . His taxi hit a rubbish truck. B . His taxi hit a black car. C . A black car nearly hit the taxi. D . A black car nearly hit a rubbish truck.
    2. (2) How did the taxi driver deal with the other driver?
A . He smiled at him. B . He pointed at him. C . He shouted at him. D . He looked at him.
    3. (3) In this passage, "the Rubbish Truck" refers to _________.
A . the writer B . the black car C . the driver of the taxi D . the driver of the black car
    4. (4) According to the passage, which of the following can be considered as rubbish?
      A . Someone's good wishes. B . Someone's anger. C . Someone's dirty car, D . Someone's regrets.
    5. (5) We can learn from the passage that _________.
A . we should try to make 100% of our life B . no successful people drive rubbish trucks C . life is very short, so we should get up early D . we should love or give wishes to people around

六、阅读短文, 从方框中选择合适单词并用其适当形式填空(有两个词多余) (10分)
  • 16. (2021八下·鞍山期末) 阅读短文,从方框中选择合适单词并用其适当形式填空。(有两个词多余)

think, try, interest, what, good, how, like, while, they, go, use, much

In your school, are you allowed to choose the subjects you want to learn? Of course, the answer is "No" here in China.

In America there is a school something new. At a high school in Florida, students will be able to choose their own classes. We all know that some students are at some subjects than others. Some students plan to go on to college, others will not. At this school students are able to find subjects they are in, and possibly even find the field(领域) they would like into after school. They are allowed to choose a subject: biology, math, a foreign language, or study skills like computer or car repair.

Some people think this is a good idea, because it helps. students about what they want to do in the future, and the school helps to give them the knowledge and skills needed to get there. They say that giving the students the chance to choose own classes makes high school more interesting. Others disagree. They think that fourteen-year-old teenagers are too young to know they will do in the future.

What do you think? Would you like to be able to choose your own classes? Many changes have been made in education, but seeing the differences in each student is also important.

七、任务型阅读(10分)
  • 17.  任务型阅读

What inspires(激励) you to work hard?Having your own goals is important. Good sleep also helps. But as it turns out, having a plant on your desk can improve your work as well.

Mike Robinson, an engineer from Canada, owns his own small company. (A) One dayhis wife advised him to choose some plants and put them on his workers' desks

Robinson doubted the idea at first. What good would plants do?He thought (B) theymight even be distracting(让人分心的). But he decided to try out the idea.

First, Robinson bought 20 plants for his workers. He asked each worker to make a small sign(标签) that said "My name is ____"and write their own name on the sign. Then, they put the sign on the plant they chose and took it back to their desk.

To his surprise. Robinson found that his workers were working much harder and getting along much better than before.

It could be because his workers formed "friendships" with their plants. They would take good care of them, and in turn, take more care with their work. Plants can help to create a relaxed atmosphere (氛围) as well.

What about you?Does your classroom have any plants?If not, you might want to ask your teacher about this. (C)You and your classmates could take turns taking care of some plants in your classroom. It could be a nice way to make your classroom more lively and get to know your classmates even better.
