It was a sunny and enjoyable day. Everyone in the 1  station was waiting for   the train to arrive. Among the crowd, there was a group of young friends who were on board for vacation. 

It was a2   station with a lot of people and some juice stores, coffee and tea   stalls,  newspaper  stores,  etc. The   train   was   arriving   and   everyone   prepared to3  the train. 

The group of friends made loud noise to4  the train as it moved into the station. 

They ran to get their seats5  anyone else entered the train. 

The empty seats were 6   and the train whistled(鸣汽笛) to move. A man with a teenager aged around 15 had their seats just next to the group of friends. The teenager was so 7   to see everything. He cheered, "Dad. The train is moving, and the things are moving backwards. "

Have you ever walked into a room and felt relaxed? It could be because the walls were painted blue, a calm and peaceful color. 

Sometimes colors can affect our feelings and moods. Some colors can make us feel calm and peaceful. Blue is one of these. Wearing blue clothes or sleeping in a blue room is good for our mind and body, because this color makes a good feeling. Blue is also the color of sadness, so you may say you're feeling blue when you are feeling sad. White is another calm color. You should wear white clothes if you are feeling nervous. White is also the color of purity(纯洁). Many women like to be in white on their wedding day. Green is the color of nature. It can give us more energy when we are feeling tired. 

Some colors can make you feel warm. These colors can give you a happy feeling. People who live in cold climates use warm colors in their homes like orange and yellow instead of white and blue. 

Orange shows joy. It can bring you success and cheer you up when you are feeling sad. Yellow is the color of the sun, so it can remind you of a warm, sunny day. Yellow is also the color of wisdom. Some people prefer this color when they study for exams. For example, they may use yellow school things. Red is one of the strong colors. Wearing red often makes us active. 

In short, we can try out different colors if we aren't feeling our best. 

There was a man who had four sons. He wanted his sons to learn to be patient and wise. So he asked them to take turns looking at a pear tree that was far from their home. 

The first son went in winter, the second in spring, the third in summer, and the youngest son in fall. 

After they came back, he called them together and asked them what they saw. The first son said that the tree was ugly and weak. 

The second son didn't think so—he said it was covered with green buds(花蕾) and full of hope. 

The third son didn't agree with them. He said it was covered in flowers that smelled sweet and looked beautiful.

The Beatles were one of the most successful and influential pop-music groups of the 1960s. The members included rhythm guitarist Lennon, bass guitarist McCartney, lead guitarist Harrison and drummer Starr. 

Lennon formed a band in Liverpool, England, when in high school in the mid-1950s. McCartney and then Harrison joined the group in the late 1950s. In its early years, the band also had several other members. In 1962, they signed a recording contract (合同) with a large music company. At about this time, they chose Starr to replace (替代) drummer Pete Best. 

At first, the Beatles' songs were lively and simple. The first song was Love Me Do in 1962. Their first hit came the following year, when Please Please Me climbed to the top of the British music charts (排行榜). 

The Beatles became very famous in Britain. People started calling the excitement over the band Beatlemania. The Beatles became very popular in the United States after appearing on Ed Sullivan's television program in February, 1964. Teenage girls across the country screamed and fainted over them, and boys copied the Beatles' look. By April, the top five hits in the United States were all Beatles' songs. 

In the late 1960s, the Beatles began creating more adventurous music with different musical styles. The band recorded the albums The Beatles (1968), Abbey Road(1969) and Let it Be(1970). 

The pressure of fame led the Beatles to break up in 1970. All four continued their musical careers -Lennon with his wife, Yoko Ono; McCartney with band Wings and later as a solo performer; and Starr and Harrison mainly as solo artists. 

Have you ever seen volunteers? Just (想象) what the world would be like without volunteers. I can always see volunteers anytime and anywhere in our city. Some stand at the crossing to   (提醒) people of different traffic   (标志). Some help the   (生病的) dogs or cats that are badly   (受伤). Some go to the old people's home to care for the lonely old people. People of all ages are willing to do volunteer jobs, such as (打扫) the floor or raising money for the charity. Tom is a student from Huansha Middle School. He (提供) books for the students in poor  (地区) every year. "I can get a strong feeling of satisfaction through volunteering. Also, volunteering helps me to better (竞争) in the future, he said proudly while he was  (交流) with the reporter last week. Thanks to volunteers' work, we can get a beautiful world that is full of love. 

There is no doubt that every parent wants to give（good）thing in the world to their children, so they nurse their children very carefully. They decide everything for（they）, because the parents think they are experienced and can make sure the kids won't go the wrong way. In my opinion, parents should  (allow) children to make their own decisions. 

On the one hand, parents can't make all the decisions  their kids. When the kids grow up, they need to learn the（important) of being independent and   think in their own way. The parents'（kind) will stop the children becoming mature(成熟的). As adult, he can't even make his own decision, how ridiculous!

On the other hand, it is children's right to make mistakes. Most parents have made mistakes  they are young, so they don't want their kids to go their ways. But sometimes mistakes can help the children grow up and solve the problems more （brave). They will learn lessons from these mistakes. 

Parents should not do all the things for the children, as the saying that growing up needs to pay the price. Don't be afraid of（make）mistakes. It's necessary for the children. 

As we all know, there are many differences between western culture and Chinese culture.   Let's look at some words about animals and plants. Most of the expressions in Chinese about the dog, for example, "a homeless dog", "a mad dog", "a running dog" and "a dog catching a mouse", have negative( 消极的) meanings. 

 In English, people use: the dog to describe positive actions. For example, "you are a lucky dog" means you are a lucky person. And "every dog has its day" means each person has good luck sometimes. To describe a person's serious illness, they say "sick as a dog", the word "dog-tired" means very tired. However, Chinese love cats very much. But in western culture, "cat" is often used to describe a woman who is unkind. 

 People think the rose stands for love, peace, courage and friendship. 

And the rose is the national flower of England, America and many other countries. 

 We can learn about many differences in cultures by comparing how   words are used. 

A. There are many other examples of how "cat" is used differently as well. 

B. The words about plants and animals are used in good or bad ways in different cultures. 

C. We can see differences when we pay attention to the way words are used. 

D. But westerners love cats very much as well as Chinese people. 

E. But in Western countries, dogs are mentioned to be honest and good friends of humans. 

F. The rose is regarded as a symbol of love in both China and some Western countries.
