It was getting dark. Paul looked out of the window and sighed. Dad had promised to play 1 with him, but he still didn't get home. Paul was so disappointed that he walked into his room and threw his baseball into the corner. He tried to do some homework, 2 he couldn't.

Of course, the first thing you might think about is the food. When people talk about Italy, the first thing that comes to mind is pasta. But do you know there are hundreds of different kinds? Also, the names of the pasta can differ from region to region.
While food is an important part of Italian culture, the true heart of the culture is the family unit and the sense of pride in one's community. For Italians, food and family go together. Mealtime is taken very seriously. Meals are the time for Italians to stay with friends and family to not only enjoy food, but talk and share time with each other.
Another theme of the life in Italy is the siesta — a time when businesses close from 1 p.m. to
4 p.m. People can enjoy the afternoon and take a break during the hottest hours of the day. In the evening, many Italians like to take a walk around the town, chatting with friends or maybe drinking a cup of coffee. When temperatures start to warm up, you will notice that the streets become emptier. Every August, many businesses shut down for a month so that families can enjoy the seaside and escape from the heat.
So, if you are looking to experience something different on your next trip, be sure to give Italy a try. It is a place where you can take time to enjoy the small things in life.
Mobile phones are one of the most useful inventions of the last 50 years, but not everything that is said about them is good. Mobile phones are usually to blame for a number of things: from headaches to house fires. One theory even blames mobile phones for the disappearance of bees!
The theory is that the bees' navigation systems are damaged by the radiation from mobile phones. Bees have a built-in system, and this helps them find their way back to their hives. But recently, thousands of bees have failed to find their way home.
The problem was first noticed by beekeepers in America and is a lot more serious than it at first seems. The important thing about bees is that most of the plants in many countries of the world are pollinated by them. Without bees, the plants can't grow. Many beekeepers in America and Europe have reported losing between 50 and 70 percent of their bees. Jim Piper, a London beekeeper, was recently asked how the problem was affecting him. “My business has been destroyed by this,” he complained.
Nobody has proved that this theory is true but it's a fact that bees are disappearing in very large numbers. And we can do nothing without them. Einstein said that if all our bees disappeared, man would only live for four more years! The situation firstly needs to be tested by the world's best scientists. If the result proves that the theory is correct, we need to do something about it immediately — before it is too late.
When I was told that my family decided to move from the only home that I had ever known, I ran into the garden and sat alone, crying, as tears welled up from my hearts.
Suddenly I felt a hand rest on my shoulder. It was my grandfather.
"It isn't easy, is it, Billy?" he said softly, sitting down on the steps beside me.
"Grandpa," I replied through my tears, "how can I ever say goodbye to you and all my friends?"
"Goodbye is such a sad word," he said. "Although we seem to have so many ways of saying goodbye, they all have one thing in common: sadness."
Then he gently took my hand in his and took me to his favorite place in the garden, where a huge red rose bush grew alone.
"What do you see here, Billy?" he asked.
I looked at the flowers, "I see something soft and beautiful, Grandpa."
Kneeling, he pulled me close. "It isn't just the roses that are beautiful, Billy. It's that special place in your heart that makes them so."
I saw my grandfather's tears. I had never seen him cry before.
"I planted these roses a long, long time ago. I put them into the ground the day my first son was born. That boy's name was Billy, just like yours. I used to watch him pick roses for his mother. One day a terrible war came, and my son went away to fight for the country. Three months later a letter came. My son had died in a village in Italy. All I could think of was that the last thing I said to him in his life was goodbye."
Grandpa slowly stood up. He said, "Don't ever say goodbye, Billy. Don't ever give in to the sadness and loneliness of that word. I want you to remember the happiness of those times when you first said hello to your friends. Take that special hello into your heart. When you and your friends must part, I want you to reach deep within yourself and bring back that first hello."
A year and a half later, my grandfather became badly ill. When he returned from the hospital, the family members were summoned. It was time for the family members to say their goodbyes.
When it came to my turn, I noted how tired he looked. His eyes were closed, and his breathing was slow and hard.
I took his hand as gently as he had once taken mine.
"Hello, Grandpa," I said. His eyes slowly opened.
"Hello, my friend," he said, with a smile.

Most people know his name and consider him as one of (有影响力的) Chinese thinkers, but very few people know who Confucius really was and what he really said.
Although his father died when Confucius was young, he didn't give himself up. Thanks to a friend, Confucius was able to study at the Royal Library, where he got the (知识) and formed his world view. It was also in the Royal Library that he (意识到) the importance of education and found the direction of his life. In order to put his ideas into practice, he spent many years making
(演讲) from state to state, trying to find a proper ruler. After failing to find a (公平的) ruler, Confucius made the (决定) to return to his home town and became a teacher. Among the (日常的) discussions between Confucius and his students, some of his meaningful sayings (记录) and made into a book called The Analects.
Today, millions of people worldwide still read his sayings to get (勇气), thinking that can help them improve their thinking (能力) and then live a better life.
