Some people learn a second language easily. Other people have trouble learning a new language. How can you help yourself learn a new language, such as English? There are several ways to make learning English a little easier and more interesting.
The first step is to feel confident about learning English. If you believe that you can learn, you will learn. Be patient. You do not have to understand everything all at once. It is natural to make mistakes when you learn something new. We can learn from our mistakes.
The second step is to practice your English. For example, write a journal every day. You will get used to writing in English, and you will feel comfortable expressing your ideas in English. After several weeks, you will see that your writing is improving. Besides, you must speak English every day. You can practice with your classmates outside class. You will all make mistakes, but gradually you will become comfortable communicating in English.
The third step is to keep a record of your language learning. You can write this in your diary. After each class, think about what you did. Did you answer a question correctly? Did you understand something the teacher explained? Perhaps the lesson was difficult, but you tried to understand it. Write these achievements in your journal.
You must be positive about learning English and believe that you can do it. It is important to practice every day and make a record of your achievements. You will enjoy learning English, and you will have more confidence in yourself.
Every Sunday morning I take a walk around a park near my home. There's a lake in one corner of the park. Each time I walk by this lake, I see the same old woman sitting at the water's edge with a small metal cage beside her.
This Sunday, I stopped walking and went over to her. As I got closer, I realized that there were three turtles(乌龟)，unhurt, slowly walking around the base of the metal cage. She had a fourth turtle on her knee that she was carefully cleaning it with a brush, which made me feel surprised.
"Hello," I said. "If you don't mind, I'd love to know what you're doing with these turtles."
"I'm cleaning off their shells," she replied.
"Anything on a turtle's shell weakens the turtle's ability to take in heat and blocks its ability to swim. It can also impair and weaken the shell over time."
She went on, "I spend a couple of hours each Sunday morning, relaxing by this lake and helping these little guys out. It's my own strange way of making a difference. "
"Well then, don't you think your time could be better spent? It's a waste of time. And 99% of these turtles don't have kind people like you to help them clean off their shells. So, how exactly are your efforts here truly making a difference?"
The woman smiled, then looked down at the turtle on her knee, wiped off the last piece of algae(海藻) from its shell, and said, "Sweetie, if this little guy could talk, he'd tell you I just made all the difference in the world. "
Maybe you are an average student. You probably think you will never be a top student. This is not necessarily so, however. Anyone can become a better student if he or she wants to. Here's how:
Plan your time carefully. When planning your work, you should make a list of things that you have to do. After making this list, you should make a schedule of your time. First set your time for eating, sleeping, dressing, etc. Don't forget to set aside enough time for entertainment. A weekly schedule may not solve all your problems, but it will force you realize what is happening to your time.
Look around the house for a good study area. Keep this space, which may be a desk or simply a corner of your room, free of everything but study materials. No games, radios, or television. When you sit down to study, concentrate on the subject.
Make good use of your time in class. Listening carefully in class means less work later. Taking notes will help you remember what the teacher says.
Study regularly. When you get home from school, go over your notes, and review the important points that your teacher has mentioned in class. If you know what your teacher is going to discuss the next day, read that material. If you do these things regularly, the material will become more meaningful, and you'll remember it longer.
Develop a good attitude towards tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. They help you remember your new knowledge.

I was walking home from school one day and it happened to be a particularly cold and windy day. It was freezing and I was 1 enough to forget my hats and scarf. You can imagine my cheeks were rosy 2 and my hands were as numb as they can be.

Some holidays are so much fun that they become popular outside of their culture. The most obvious example is (probable) Christmas, which is celebrated by people around the world. Similarly, in recent years, the Dragon Boat Festival has moved beyond China to become international holiday celebrated by people may know little about the holiday's origins.
The Dragon Boat Festival is one of three major Chinese (holiday), along with the Spring and Moon Festivals. Of the three, it is possibly the oldest, (date) back to the Warring States Period in 227 B.C. The festival was set in memory of Qu Yuan, who threw himself into a river. People jumped into their boats and tried (save) him. Then, hoping to drive hungry fish away from his body, people threw rice in the water.
Gradually, the story of Qu's (die) transformed into the traditions of racing dragon boats and (eat) zongzi – a kind of rice wrapped in bamboo leaves. Every spring there are nearly 60 dragon boat races, which (hold) outside of China in cities from Vancouver to Sydney, from Gdańsk, Poland to Cape Town, South Africa.
So what is it about the Dragon Boat Festival that attracts foreigners? "It's a(n) (usual) sport," says one racer from Germany. "There's such great team spirit in a dragon boat team – everybody feels like we're doing something special."
