Lisa has always been overweight. She wanted to lose weight, not just because she wanted to1more beautiful and healthier, but also because it would make life easier. For example, it was difficult for Lisa to find ready-made clothes that would fit. She had to ask a tailor (裁缝) to make clothes that were2enough. In school, she needed a special chair3was bigger and stronger than the other chairs. If she went for a walk, she got tired very quickly. She was also unhappy about the way people treated her sometimes. "People look at me and even make fun of me. That's4! It's true that I'm overweight, but I don't think people can treat me differently because I'm big. I can't enjoy having dinner with my friends because I'm afraid of getting5." Her friends and family never made fun of her. They tried to help her6. They wanted her to be happy and healthy. Sometimes when Lisa was feeling sad, she didn't want to speak to anyone.
But now things were quite different. Last month her classmates were preparing for the School7Week. Someone advised Lisa to play the lead role of the proud Queen (女王) who was tall and fat. Lisa8and practiced a lot.
Soon after the play, Lisa became the star! She did9well that everybody remembered the proud Queen. They stood around her and said "10" to her. She even won the School Best Actress Award for her wonderful performance.
Now Lisa doesn't worry about being fat any more. She believes in the English saying "Every dog has its day."
Every year thousands of young people in England finish school and then take a year off before they start work or go to university. Some young people go to other countries and work as volunteers. Volunteers give their time to help people. For example, they work in schools or hospitals, or they do something helpful for the environment.
Pauline Jones, 18, lives in Cardiff, Wales. Next year she wants to go to university to study Chinese, but now she's living in Belize. Pauline says, "I'm working with other people here to save the coral reefs (珊瑚礁) in the sea near Belize. The reefs here are beautiful, but if the sea water is very polluted, the coral dies. I'm helping to do research on the coral and the fish that live around the reefs. All over the world, coral reefs are dying. We need to do something about the problem before it's too late."
"I'm staying with a family here and I help do some housework. I don't get any money, but that's OK. I love my work here, and I'm learning a lot about the people of Belize-and myself!
When I finish my work, I want to stay here for another three months. I want to travel around Belize and Central America."
Different sports have different rules for the audience. For example, you have to keep quiet while you are watching gymnastics. But cheering can really help basketball and football players. So it is a good idea to learn about the culture and rules of sports.

Green is an important color in nature. It is the color of grass and the leaves on trees. It is the color of most growing plants, too.
Sometimes, the word green means young, fresh and growing. Sometimes, it describes something that is not yet finished or plants that are not ripe.
For example, a greenhorn is someone who has no experience, who is new to a situation. In the fifteenth century, a greenhorn was a young cow or ox whose horns(角) had not yet developed. A century or so later, a greenhorn was a soldier who had not yet had any experience in war (战争). By the eighteenth century, a greenhorn had the meaning it has today--a person who is new in a job.
About one hundred years ago, greenhorn was a popular expression in the American west. Old-timers used it to describe a man who had just arrived from one of the big cities in the east. The greenhorn didn't have the skills that he would need to live in the hard, rough country.
Someone who has the ability to grow plants well is said to have a green thumb (拇指). The expression comes from the early nineteen hundreds.
A person with a green thumb seems to have a magic touch that makes plants grow quickly and well. You might say that the woman next door has a green thumb if her garden continues to grow long after your plants have died.
The Green Revolution (革命) is the name which was given some years ago to the development of new kinds of rice and other grains. The new plants produced much larger crops. The Green Revolution was the result of hard work by agricultural scientists who had green thumbs.

One day a man found a cocoon (茧) of a butterfly in the forest. He sat there for several hours and watched the butterfly. Suddenly a small opening appeared, and the butterfly made its great effort to force its body t that little hole. Then it seemed to stop m any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it could go no further.
So the man d to help the butterfly. He cut off the remaining bit of the cocoon so that the butterfly could come out e. But to his surprise, the butterfly got a heavy body and very small wings when it came out of the cocoon.
The man cto watch the butterfly because he expected that the body would grow smaller at any moment and the wings would become l and be able to fly. But neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the r of its life crawling (爬) around with a heavy body and small wings. It was never able to fly.
The man was in his kindness, but he did not understand the nature r. Before the butterfly came out of the cocoon, fluid (流体) from its body must be forced into its wings, and then it would be rfor flying. It must have a hard struggle (拼搏) to get through the small opening to get its freedom from the cocoon.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to go through our life without any d, it would make us fail. We would not be as strong as we could have been; we could never fly.
