Let me tell you something about sharks. Sharks are among the oldest animals in the world. There are over three hundred and fifty different kinds of sharks in the world. Most sharks are about two meters long and live in the oceans.
A shark can smell something in the water, for example, the blood of animals. That helps them find their food. Sharks mainly eat fish, other sharks and plants in the ocean.
Most sharks bite (咬)people by mistake. They think a person is a large sea animal. When the sun goes down or comes up, sharks are looking for food. So at these times people shouldn't go swimming in the ocean. Today people kill sharks for food and their skin. The number of sharks in the world is dropping fast.
Where would you like to stay when you go on a vacation? What kind of hotel would you like to choose? Different people have different ideas. In fact, there are all kinds of special places to stay when you go on a vacation. There are hotels, motels, youth hostels, B&Bs (bed-and-breakfast), home stays, and more. Each is for a different kind of people. If you travel by car, a motel is good for you. You can park your car outside your room. A youth hostel is good for young backpackers (背包客). A B&Bs might be best for couples (夫妻) or anybody who doesn't like being noisy.
For people who like reading, the library hotel in New York is a must-see. Each of the hotel's 60 rooms is full of books. In fact the hotel has over 6, 000 books in all. If history is your thing, the 9th floor is for you. If you are interested in math and science, you can stay on the 5th floor. Artists will feel at home on the 7th floor. The Poetry Garden is on the 14th floor, and there is a cozy sofa in it. You can sit on the sofa and enjoy reading a good book or relax outside in the Poetry Garden.
Do you know something about the holiday camps in Hong Kong? In the past, the students in Hong Kong usually join an English holiday camp in their holidays. And their parents didn't go with them, though they were very young.
Now they still enjoy joining many kinds of holiday camps without their parents. Many parents let their children join some kinds of holiday camps in order to learn some useful knowledge in the life and also learn some knowledge about living skills, science, reading, writing and so on. The most important thing for the children to join the holiday camps is to learn to look after themselves.
Holiday camps in Hong Kong are not so expensive. Most families can afford to sent their children there for study or for making their bodies strong.
It is said that students in Hong Kong have much knowledge about many things. Perhaps it has something to do with all kinds of holiday camps.
Mike was the kind of guy you love to hate. He was always happy and always had something interesting to say. If someone asked him how he was doing, he would reply, "Couldn't be better!" He was really a care-free young man and never felt tired.
Mike used to say, "Each morning I wake up and say to myself, 'Mike, you have two choices (选择) today. You can choose to be happy or you can choose to be upset.' I choose to be happy. Each time something happens, I am always ready to learn a good lesson. I choose to learn from life."
I tried to understand what he said. Indeed life is all about choices. Every situation is a choice. The bottom line is: You're living your life and you make it either happy or sad.
Several years later I had a car accident and my legs were seriously injured. When I was lying on the ground, I remembered that I had two choices: I could choose to live or choose to die. I chose to live.
People like to say, "Choose the one you love and love the one you choose." Why not choose the one we love and live happily?
Everyone wants to be successful. But failure is a common (普通的) thing for us to meet with.
1, sometimes we 2 the exams, sometimes in the sports meet, others 3 but we fail. So4 everybody meets with the failure in his life.
However, different people have different 5 to deal 6 the failure. Some people lose hope when they fail. They seem to think that it is the 7 of the world. Others, 8, don't take failure 9. They seem to think that failure is the first step to success. They will keep up and try their best 10 the final success.
Now let's imagine the ends of the two ways. If we are 11 of the failure and always feel12, and don't try our best to change ourselves, we may meet with more and more failures. But as long as we are hopeful and brave to face them, and never give up, we will 13 successful and our dreams will come true some day.
So, please remember: Life doesn't give us the pleasure we want. But 14 we never give up and15 do little by little, it will make a big difference.
