    Flu easily spreads from one person to another. If you are weak, you probably catch flu easily. Do you know how you can avoid flu? Here are some suggestions:

    Keep in good health

    You can eat everything you want but make sure that your diet is healthy. The healthier you are, the better it is for you to avoid any type of illness around. Most doctors suggest drinking lots of fresh fruit juice and water is helpful to avoid flu.

    Stay away from people with flu

    If a member of the family or a friend has flu, stay away from him/her until he/she is well. Flu is very communicable. If you stay with the person with flu, you can catch flu easily. Wear a mask (口罩) and avoid using things that the person with flu is using.

    Exercise

    Exercising will make you stronger, which means a stronger immune system (免疫系统), too. Exercise often so that your body will keep healthy. It doesn't matter what kind of exercise it is.

    Be happy

    Happy people are healthy people. Their life isn't stressed out, so they may be safe from illness. If you are unhappy, you will easily get sick. Avoiding the flu is easy. Just boost (增强) your immune system and it will take care of the rest.

    Working as a vet (兽医), I met a family who taught me an unforgettable lesson. They came to my clinic with their dying dog Coco. I examined Coco and found he was old and had a serious illness. I told the family we couldn't do anything for Coco, and euthanasia (安乐死) would be best for the dog.

    On that day, they little boy Eric seemed so calm , petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if Eric understood what was going on.

    The little boy seemed to accept Coco's death without any difficulty. We sat together for a while after Coco's death, explaining that animal lives are shorter than human lives.

    Eric, who had been listening quietly, piped up: "I know why."

He said, "People need a lifetime to learn how to live a good life—like loving everybody and being nice, right?" The six-year-old continued, "Well, animals already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

    I'd never heard a more soft-hearted explanation as to why animal lives are so short. It has changed the way I live. I see everyday as the day that my life could be easily taken away, so I try to live my life to the fullest.

    Recently, a junior high school sent several students back home because they broke the school uniform (校服) rules. Should students wear school uniforms? The Young World magazine held a discussion on this topic (话题) .

    Kennedy: The school uniform is very important, because it always reminds me that I am supposed to go out of my way to study hard. It also helps prevent school bullying (欺凌) .If everyone wears the same clothes, it is impossible to laugh at other people's clothing.

    Manson: The uniform has to be earned (获得) through efforts. Students should start school with no uniforms. As they make progress at school, they start wearing it. I always think children need to be proud of their school. The uniform is important for that. So, make students earn it! If they don't perform well, they should not be allowed to get one.

    Moorhead: In my opinion, kids don't have to wear uniforms. There should be more choices open to kids in education. They should develop their own independence and just be themselves. Their personalities would be expressed through their own clothes at school. And different dress could be one way of showing their understanding of beauty. Besides, they make the school lively and colorful.

    Patrick: I can see the advantages of wearing school uniforms. They play a very important role in managing schools. However, a school should not depend heavily on uniforms to improve students' behaviors. Teaching them how to express themselves with confidence is more important.

    In difficult times, there are always individuals who step up and bring people hope and confidence. Zhong Nanshan is one of these heroes who (make) great contributions during the outbreak of the novel coronavirus pneumonia(NCP) (新冠肺炎).

    Growing up in a family of doctors, Zhong lives by a simple motto (信条) : save lives and always be honest. In 2003, when SARS hit China, he volunteered  (treat) patients and asked his colleagues (同事) to send their most serious cases to him. After months of work, his treatment plan for SARS  (accept) by China and then the whole world, saving thousands of lives.

    Seventeen years later, Zhong is once again  (lead) an expert team to study the novel coronavirus. "Please don't travel to Wuhan unless it's absolutely necessary, "Zhong Nanshan reminded the public when the novel coronavirus first  (hit) Wuhan. But he, 84, rushed on an overnight train to Wuhan on Jan 18 while the patients there  (wait) for a proper treatment. Two days later, he became the first expert to make certain that the new virus  (be) spread between humans. Under his guidance, his team developed a rapid test kit (快速检测试剂盒) for the disease that can show results within 15 minutes. Although this new virus is known to be more dangerous to the elderly, Zhong  (not seem) worried about his own safety.

    Mom and Dad live in Calverton. On June 28, my parents celebrated 70 years of marriage.

    They have been through years of hard work and good times, a supporting each other.

    As a child, I remember my parents working side by side for spring, fall, winter, and summer cleaning or working in the yard, or painting and wallpapering.

    My parents bought a h in Elmont. They never believed they'd be able to own their own home, and to them, it was their castle. They worked hard to decorate it and kept i looking beautiful. They taught us to work hard and to appreciate everything we had.

    Mom likes everything—sightseeing, clubs, shopping, anything. Dad, even today, can't u why she always wants to go out!

    Mom is really active with the Red Hatters women's group and her gardening club. Dad spoils (宠坏) her by taking care of the house.

    The key to their s marriage is that they respect each other.

    My brother, who is 67, and I (now 69), have always known we are lucky to have such great parents. They have shown us what love is, what hard work is, and what respect is all about.

    My daughter and I try to see them almost every weekend w we play cards together and catch upon the week's news.

    My parents are the glue that holds our whole family t , making holidays and ordinary days special to us all.

    For a Chinese kid,  publishing (出版) a book in English is quite a big challenge. But Zhang Lu, a 15-year-old student from Beijing, has done so.

    She wrote an English-language fantasy novel, The Vampires of Lorania. Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press has published it. (A)It is their first time to publish a high school students works independently.

    In Zhang's 60, 000-word novel, she describes a vampire kingdom called Lorania. A brave girl named Rose and a Chinese boy fight with bad guys to keep Lorania peaceful. It discusses the meaning of heroism (英雄主义) from the view of a teenager. It tells readers "A hero is one who chooses to stay and fight for what is right, even if he is afraid."

    Zhang studies at the High School Affiliated with Renmin University of China (人大附中) .She has spent over five years working on the book.

    As a big fan of English, Zhang enjoys reading original novels (原版小说) and watching TV series in English. She is especially interested in fantasy novels. When she was in Grade 5, she read The Chronicles of Narnia (《纳尼亚传奇》) by US author C. S. Lewis. It encouraged her to write her own novel.

    (B) With little experience, she did run into some problems, like how to design the story.

    "I read many other fantasy novels like Twilight and The Lord of the Rings to learn somethings. And I kept changing and improving my draft again and again" she said.

    Zhang is happy about publishing her first book. "It gives me a chance to express my ideas, "she said. She has already started writing a sequel (续集) to her book.
