Jean is a bright young girl who comes from a rich and famous family. But the problem is that (每个人) in Jean's family is so busy that they can hardly find time to be with her. They often leave her alone at home during holidays. (事实上)，Jean is quite lonely. and (不开心的). So Jean spends a lot of time on her QQ. She uses the name Linda on QQ and has made a lot of friends who she keeps in (接触) with quite often. Last year Jean made a very special friend on QQ His name was David and he lived in San Francisco. David was full of stories and jokes. He and Jean had a common (兴趣) in rock music and modern dance. So it always took them hours to talk happily on QQ and sometimes they even talked at (午夜). Of course, they wanted to know more about each other. David sent a (对) of pictures of himself: He was a tall, good-looking young man with a big, happy smile. As time went by, they became good friends and often sent cards and small things to each other. When Jean's father told her that he was going on a (生意) trip to San Francisco, she asked him to let her go with him so that she could give David a (惊喜) for his birthday. But when she arrived at the (地址) that he gave and knocked on David's door in San Francisco, she found that her special friend was a twelve year-old boy named Jim!
It's said that America receives tens of thousands of inventions every year. Of these only a few become (受欢迎的)and make a lot of money. There are thousands of inventions that (没有人) wants. Here are some of these.
In 1879, somebody invented a new type of "fire escape ". This was a hat which had a parachute(降落伞) on top. You (连接) the hat with a strap under your chin. With this special hat on you could jump from a building on (火) and fly down safely. With it there was also a special (双) of shoes, so the person could land safely.
There was a special alarm clock for people who had (问题) waking up in the morning. This clock had six pieces of wood that hung above your head. At the right time the pieces of wood (掉落) on you when you were sleeping. They hit you but did not (伤害) you, Therefore, you woke up.
Another invention was the bicycle seat to stop a thief. This seat had needles in it. When the (拥有者) rode the bicycle the needles were down. But when the bicycle was not in use, the needles were up. So a thief who jumped on the bike got a big (惊喜).
Danny is short and thin. Of all the boys around he is the (瘦的) one. So he is called Bones(骨头) by his friends. He talks more and laughs louder than (任何人). However, he is always unhappy because he is not good at sports.
One day, Danny watched the (男子) marathon(马拉松赛跑) on TV. The runners didn't need to run fast and they just ran on and on. They didn't have big muscles. They were more (像) Danny. He decided to have a try. "Boy, it's better to do a little bit each day," (建议) his mum. The next day, Danny started his practice. From then on he kept on (训练) in the park every morning.
The race day came. There were 109 runners and they were all bigger than Danny.

Young people and older people sometimes have different (看法) on work and life. But last month in one special program in New York State, teenagers and adults lived together and. (影响) each other in a friendly way.
Each summer 200 teenagers and adults live and work together for eight weeks as a group. Everyone works several hours each day. Lots of vegetables and fruit,(种植) on the farms, (包括) carrots, tomatoes and apples. Teenagers learn to (修理) things like tables and chairs with the help of the adults.
When people live together, rules are (必要的). In this program the teenagers and the adults make the rules together and follow the rules together. Also, they make a (协议) to decide everything together. If they have a problem in living or working, they will discuss it and work it out. Sometimes, adults are (明智的) than teenagers in solving problems, but teenagers have quicker mind.
One of the teenagers says about his experience, "we stop thinking only about (我们自己). We learn to think about the (整个的) group."
I like reading. I love many different(种类) of books, because they not only open my mind but also give me courage.
Up to now I have read a lot of books, such as magazines,(小说) and storybooks. But one of the books that I like best is The Story of My Life. It was(写) by American writer Helen Keller in 1902. She was a blind, deaf and dumb person. In the book, she wrote that she had not
been able to see, hear or speak(自...以..来) she was one year and seven months old. This unusual thing made her very sad.(幸运地), she met her good teacher, Miss Sullivan at the age of seven. Helen was getting(更开心的) every day. Then, Miss Sullivan helped her learn how to write English words. At first, Miss Sullivan wrote some words on Helen's hands with her(自己的) fingers again and again. Helen was a very hard working girl. She tried as much as possible to remember words. After that, she wrote many famous(作品). The Story of My Life is one of them.
The Story of My Life describes her hard struggle to(成为) a good writer and educationist of the world.
It shows us an important truth: Nothing is(困难的) if you put your heart into it! This is why I like it best. What about you?

During the past one hundred years, there have been many inventions. Most of them make our life much (容易) and more interesting. TV is one of them. Many people enjoy watching TV for (乐趣). Some even believe that TV has (使得) their children smarter because there are all kinds of information on it such as news, (科学),sports, music and language. Children can learn a lot from TV in a short time without going out. Many parents are happy to know this because they (自己) are too busy to spend time with their children.
But we have found that more and more children today have problems (阅读), thinking and concentrating even though they have watched a lot of TV. In fact, getting much information doesn't (意味着) real learning. Children who watch too much TV don't have (足够) time to think or communicate with people. Last week I stayed at home alone for the first time. My parents had a long-time (讨论) about who would go to Beijing to take care of my (生病的) brother. Finally I asked them to go together and I'm sure I can take good care of myself at home. In the station I said goodbye to my parents. When the train went away I couldn't hold back my tears though there were so many (乘客).
