Camberwell College Swimming Pools
Camberwell College of Arts has one 50m (Olympic sized) pool with a depth of 2m throughout, and one 25m pool with a 1m shallow end and a 4m deep end. Both pools may be used by the general public at certain times.
50m Pool
The pool is often used for classes, but the general public may use two lanes（泳道）for lane swimming at the following times.
Monday: 06:30-11:30 and 19:00-21:00
Tuesday: 06:30-11:30 and 18:00-21:00
Wednesday: 06:30-13:30 and 17:30-21:30
Thursday: 06:30-13:30
Friday: 06:30-13:30
Weekends: 09:00-17:00
Children under the age of 14 must be accompanied by an adult.

25m Pool
The 25m pool is available for recreational (non-lane) swimming from 07:00-09:00 and 12:30-13:30 on weekdays, and 10:00-16:00 on Saturdays.
Children aged 12 and under must be accompanied.
We regret that the 25m pool will be closed for redecoration between 21st July and 18th August. The men's changing rooms will be closed for the week beginning 19th August, and the women's changing rooms will be closed the following week. Alternative（可选用的）changing rooms will be made available. We're sorry for this.
She was sitting up at four months, walking at eight months and completing 100-piece jigsaw puzzles（拼图玩具）at 15 months. So it is no surprise that Abigail Wilson, 15, from Connecticut, USA, recently made history when she became the youngest black girl ever accepted into an American university! "I'm proud of myself for getting in, but I usually find it hard to get excited. It's pretty cool, I guess," said Abigail.
Her mother, Nancy, said that Abigail was a quiet baby, born two weeks late on Christmas Day. She didn't speak her first words until she was 22 months old! Nancy and her husband thought something must be wrong, but when she started to talk, her speech was perfect. She already knew her colours, letters and was able to read. Her parents read her normal bedtime stories and they didn't know she was learning all of it.
Abigail has always been the youngest person in her class. At six she was in the fourth grade, at ten she took her first high school class in Maths. She has studied several languages, including Spanish, French, Chinese, Russian, Arabic and German.
Abigail says that she doesn't usually plan when she studies, she calls herself scatterbrained（注意力不集中的）and she always delays（拖延）things up to the last minute. This gives her the motivation to really do something.
In her free time, Abigail plays basketball, surfs the Internet, reads, cooks and hangs out with her friends: they are all 17 and 18.She has also studied music. Her mother says that Abigail's music lessons helped her to be a normal teen. She believes that Abigail needed to be in a situation where she had to fail in order to learn. "She found playing the piano very difficult, but it made her learn better," said Nancy. "She can't always be successful, she won't be able to learn anything! People always learn more from their failures than from their successes".
No one thought that the RMS Titanic would sink on its first time at sea. But in 1912, the ship hit an iceberg and sank during the night. No one knew exactly where it had sunk. Even if someone had known, it was 12,500 feet (3.8 km) underwater. To search for the Titanic so deep in the water seemed impossible. But, 73 years later, Dr. Robert Ballard thought he had found a way to go that deep.
In 1985, Ballard set out to find the Titanic. He would use an unmanned submarine（无人驾驶的潜水艇）called Argo. Ballard's research team controlled it from a ship on the surface. Argo had video cameras and lights on it. This let Ballard see the ocean floor.
Argo searched for signs of the Titanic. For many days and nights, Ballard and his teammates found nothing but sand and sea life. Time was running out. Ballard had only four days left before he had to return his boat. He knew this would be his only chance. Then, Ballard was awakened by one of his men. It was just after one o'clock in the morning. He rushed to the control room. On a screen was the view of one of the Titanic's boilers. They had found it!
Argo took amazing pictures of the ship. Ballard and his teammates found that the huge ship was in pieces. The debris was spread across one square mile (2.6 km2) of the ocean floor. They saw teacups, bottles, shoes, and other belongings（所有物）of the passengers.
During his career, Ballard has made more than 100 trips underwater. He has done much to teach children about the oceans. But, he will always be thought of as the man who found the Titanic.
Experts say that, among young Internet users, it's not boys who create most web content. The pioneers of the Internet at the moment are the girls.
According to Jenny Baker, whose hobbies are designing icons（图示）, most boys just aren't patient enough for blogging, uploading photographs, and creating their own websites. Jenny posts her pictures on her own website, and believes that most boys don't often have their own sites. She thinks it's mainly girls.
And Jenny is right. A study shows that, among Internet users aged 12 to 17, a lot more girls blog than boys (35 percent of girls compared with 20 percent of boys). A lot more girls also work on their web pages (32 percent of girls compared with 22 percent of boys). Girls are also ahead of boys in working on websites for other people.
Some girls have their own teenage podcasts（播客）which have become very successful and sometimes the creators have their own TV shows too. When asked what they think about the study that shows girls are more active on the web, they say that they're not surprised because girls are very creative, and sometimes more creative than boys.
Other girl have started interactive（交流的）e-zines with articles written for girls by girls. “Girls from everywhere read our articles, and they ask lots of questions,” they say. “I think girls like to help other people more.” One expert said: “If boys were more interested in helping other people, the numbers would be different.”
But if girls are more interested in computers, why do women only have 27 percent of computer-related jobs? Maybe this will change in the future—after all, girls like these will be in the job market before too long.
Can zoos ever be animal-friendly?
The topic of our last class discussion was “How can zoos provide animals with a good life?” Everyone believed it was impossible for zoos to give animals a caring environment. Our teacher suggested that visiting a modern zoo might give us a new point of view.
In our discussion, many people said that zoos were full of smelly cages with unhappy animals living in. Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, however, was set in an attractive, open environment. Trees and flowers had been planted around the park.
At school, some people accused（指责）zoos of exploiting（剥削）animals for money but at Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, as I see it, nothing could be further from the truth.
Before I visited Cleveland Metroparks Zoo, I wasn't sure about the rights and wrongs of zoos. I feel that, although zoos can't provide the freedom of the wild, they can be animal-friendly by giving animals a safe and caring environment. As long as they do this well, to my mind they make a good contribution（贡献）to animal health. They also play an important part in educating us about wildlife.
On the bus back to school, we all agreed that what we liked most was the zoo's environment and we would recommend（推荐）it for next year's group.

Many people are complaining that work and study are quite difficult at time. They need a method to relax. I have found that the best way to reduce 1 is to read a good book. It 2 me to escape from real life, it gives me a(n) 3 view on the world, and reading a book is a very 4 activity.
First, reading a good story is the best way to 5 about my troubles during the day. Many of the books I read have 6 plot lines（情节安排）, which attract me to the characters and action. When I am 7 reading, nothing in the outside world seems to exist anymore. One cannot 8 in this dreamland forever, of course. 9 for an hour or so a day, it is very calming.

You can just stay at home, sitting in your favorite chair. With the house being completely quiet, you can enter the peaceful world of knowledge and imagination.
I love reading. At age 6, I could be found reading Harry Potter, a difficult book for a 6-year-old but I (enjoy) it all the same. soon became obvious that spelling for me was not difficult and I had a wide vocabulary. This is one way I benefited reading at such a young age.
My advice for you as English learners would be to read the English novels you have often read in your native language. Reading novels is a great way of (improve) your vocabulary and spelling without realising it as you are absorbed（全神贯注的）in the storyline. You know the sorry well, so its (usual) easy to follow it in English even if you do not understand every word.
This is another essential（基本的）point: it's not necessary (understand) every word. If you understand the (mean) of the sentence, each word is not necessarily important. Quite often, if a word is used several times in a text, you'll gradually get an idea of it means.
Give it a try. If you like reading yon could open up whole new world of literature.

I was always afraid of water because I nearly get drowned when I was young. As I grew old, this fear was still with me. However, my attitude to water changed last summer. One day, several classmates asked me lean to swim with them, and of course, I said no. But they were quite determined and repeated explained the benefits of swimming for me. So finally I agreed to give them a try. You can imagine what scared I was when I first had stepped into the swimming pool. But gradually, I found it great funs in the water. Now I'm no longer a gird live in fear of water.
