Are you a man or a mouse? When people ask this question they want to know whether you think you are a1 person or a coward(懦夫). But you will never really know the answer to this question 2you are tested in real life. Some people think they are brave but when they come face to face with real 3 they act like cowards. Others think of themselves as cowards, but when they meet danger, they act like heroes.
Lenny had always thought of himself as a 4 person. He got worried before examinations. He worried about his job and health. All he wanted in life was to be safe and healthy. Then, on January 15th, 2002, a plane crashed into the Potomac River in Washington. Lenny went to the river to see what was happening. He saw a woman in the5 water. Lenny did not feel afraid. He kept very calm and did a very dangerous thing. He jumped into the Potomac River,6 to the woman, and kept her head above the water. Seventy-eight people died that day. Thanks to Lenny, it was not seventy-nine.
When you are in a very 7 situation and feel afraid, the body automatically(自动地) produces a chemical in the blood. The chemical is called adrenalin(肾上腺素).8adrenalin in the blood system, you actually feel stronger and stronger and are ready to fight or run away. However, when you are absolutely terrified(完全的恐慌), the body can produce too much adrenalin. When this 9 the muscles become very hard and you find you can't move at all. You are then paralyzed (使无能为力) with fear. This is why when we are very frightened(受惊吓的), we sometimes say we're ＂petrified＂. This word comes from the Greek word ＂petros＂, which means ＂stone＂. We are10 frightened that we become stonelike.

On February 9th, 2013, Sarah Darling was walking along the street when she met a homeless man named Billy Ray Harris. She reached into her change purse, emptied out all the coins she had and gave them to the homeless man. Neither of them realized that this small generous act would change their lives.
Sarah didn't realize that she had given Billy not only all her change but also her diamond ring that she had put in her change purse earlier until the following morning. She and her husband, Bill Krejci, rushed to see if they could find Billy. The homeless man was not only in the same place, he also immediately returned the ring. The grateful couple paid him back for his honesty by emptying out their pockets of all the money they had.
Bill Krejci, a web designer, felt that he needed to do something more for this amazingly honest man. So on February 18th, he set up a special page to raise money for him. In just four days, Billy received over $85,000 and there seems to be no end yet.
That is not enough. Billy is living with a person who is generous instead of living in the streets. And that's not all—thanks to the news report, he got together again with his older brother, Edwin Harris, who he had been unable to find for 27 years.
All the good luck is just because Billy did the right thing—returning something that did not belong to him.
Jason is a five-year-old boy who cannot speak or hear. He wants to be a student like other kids. He hopes to go to a special school for disabled children. So he can learn to read there. Katrina is a student from a foreign language school. She is good at singing English songs. She hopes to volunteer at a kindergarten to help kids and practice her singing skills as well. Lilian is a new office worker in an American company. Although she knows a little English, she still needs to go to a school on weekends to improve her speaking skills as soon as possible. Marie teaches math and knows little English. She plans to visit her son in America during her next summer holiday. So she is eager to learn everyday English for her traveling abroad. Lydia likes children and has just graduated from the English Department of South China Normal University. She hopes to work as an English teacher in a junior high school. | A. During the long summer holidays, many children go to holiday camps. Emily Harris wrote about experience looking after children at Kingfishers Holiday Camp, in Salisbury.
This summer will be my third time to be at the camp here, but I've been to Kingfisher camps all over Britain. I've made a lot of friends through this summer job. It's perfect for teenagers me. After all, summer holidays are great, they are long and they can get boring! We are busy doing this job all the time and we get paid!
I help the sports and activity teachers, so I time with different groups of children, and by the end of the week, I usually know most of them well.
The best part is when the children try new, like boating or climbing. I love seeing their excitement. It's really enjoyable and it makes you feel you are a good job. Also when they play a team game, and the other team wins, instead of feeling unhappy, we teach them tohands and say ＂Congratulations!＂ to the winners. This gives me a real feeling of success.
As I said before, it isn't just the who make great new friends! Working together so closely, even for just a few weeks, the helpers at our camp become really good .

With the rapid development of science and technology, communication methods of people have changed a lot in the past years. As we all know, in ancient times, people communicated with people who were far from them only by letters, which took a very long time to get the message.
In the 19th century, telegraph (电报) was invented, but it was not widely used, letter is still the main method at that time. In 1836, John Coker invented the first electromagnetic telegraph(电磁电报机) in the world, then telegraph came into being and was popular, which was much faster than letter, bringing great convenient to people.
As time goes by, telephones become increasingly widely used. Now, the phone has been developed as mobile phone, fixed telephone, Internet telephone and other categories, being an essential communication tool in modern information society.
In addition, network communication is popular as well. It is especially widely welcomed by the youths. A great number of people communicate with others on the Internet by using software, such as email, QQ, WeChat, bbs, MSN and so on. Using software is easy. A computer which is connected to the network is enough. In China, WeChat has become the most popular communication software nowadays. WeChat, known as Weixin in China, is a mobile phone text and voice messaging communication software which is developed by Tencent. People can make video calls that not only can hear the sound, but also can see the people you talk to.
